Our responsibility to give Fernando a good car - Symonds

Pat Symonds, Renault's Head of Engineering, declared that his team has to give Fernando Alonso a decent car next season if they want to return to the front runners. The team went through a very difficult 2007 season and they hope to fight back in 2008.

Pat Symonds said in an interview with F1GrandPrix.it: "Fernando Alonso is a driver, he's not a technical person. The technical progress that we need to make at Renault will come from within our technical department. We need to understand the problems of 2007, and resolve them. Which I think we have.

"It's our responsibility to give Fernando a good car, a competitive car, that is consistent and easy to drive. And that is down to the engineers, I'm afraid."
