Lewis's award is for achievements in the promotion, participation or encouragement of sport. Throughout the year. He was on the final shortlist with British boxer Ricky Hatton and Robin Knox-Johnson who is widely knows for becoming the first man to circumnavigate the globe non stop and single-handed on 22 April 1969.

Amongst the other winners on the night was Harry Potter author J.K Rowling and a Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Baroness Margaret Thatcher.
