Ferrari to work on reliability problems

By on

The biggest surprise of the weekend was that none of the Ferrari drivers were able to complete the race. After showing amazing speed and reliabilty during winter testing, the team suffered engine problems during the Australian Grand Prix. The team has sent the engines to the factory as they want to investigate the problems as soon as possible. The next GP is scheduled for this weekend as the F1 circus moves to Malaysia.

Stefano Domenicali said: "We said it at the start: reliability is a fundamental element and to have had the engine breaking down for both drivers obviously doesn't give us peace of mind. We must understand everything but this is obviously the most worrying thing. We must react."

Additionally, Sebastien Bourdais' Toro Rosso is also powered by a Ferrari engine and it also blew only 3 laps from the end.

We believe that Ferrari's problems are either heat related or, most likely, have to do with the integration of the new standard ECU system. Toyota have earlier on declared that they also had serious difficulty to switch their engines from the Magnetti Marelli system - the same as Ferrari - to the new, FIA chosen system manufactured by McLaren electronics.
