Seven time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher has awoken from his coma, more than six months after a skiing accident left him with life threatening brain injuries.

“Mr. Schumacher was admitted to the University Hospital of Grenoble at 12:40 pm, following a skiing accident occurred in Méribel in the late morning. He suffered a severe head injury with coma on arrival, which required neurosurgical intervention immediately. He remains in a critical situation.”

Following earlier reports it is now understood that Michael Schumacher's condition has worsened, the German's head injury now described as "critical"
While initial reports claimed the seven-time champion's injury was very serious, it soon became clear that this was an exaggeration.
However, on Sunday evening his condition is understood to have worsened, with some reports claiming that he has suffered a brain haemorrhage and others that he is now in an induced coma.
His wife, Corinna, son, Mick and daughter Gina-Marie are at his bedside at the hospital in Grenoble.
Meanwhile, as we await official news on the German’s condition, former rivals of the seven-time champ have taken to Twitter to wish him well.
"Come on Michael, give us one of those race stints at pure qualifying pace to win through, like you used to," tweeted racer turned broadcaster Martin Brundle. "You can do it".
It has now become clear how severe the situation is for seven times world champion Michael Schumacher, following his ski accident this morning.
According to a statement this evening from the hospital in Grenoble where he is being treated, the German is in a “critical” condition, in an induced coma following emergency surgery to reduce swelling in the brain.
The next 48 hours are critical, according to neurological experts, to observe whether the swelling continues or not. After that neurological tests can be carried out to assess what damage the brain has sustained.
Schumacher was skiing off piste in one of Meribel’s most challenging ski areas, when he fell and struck his head on a rock. He was wearing a helmet but the blow was severe. He was taken first to a local hospital and then airlifted to Grenoble.
“Mr Schumacher was admitted.. at 12-40 following a ski accident at Meribel this morning,” said a statement from the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Grenoble.
“He was suffering from a serious brain trauma with a coma when he arrived, which necessitated an immediate neurological intervention.
While the circumstances are different, this reminds me very much of Massa in 2009...let us all hope that Schumi is able to make an equally full recovery...

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻♂️
I can sympathise with Schumi and his family. A family member of mine suffered a cerebral haemorrhage a few months back and survived it.
As mentioned already, the induced coma is for preventing further swelling and they've probably inserted a drain in his brain to remove some fluid to allow the brain to swell and not push against his skull.
Brain haemorrhage's vary so much from case to case. Fingers crossed we get Schumi back.
website of his brother is all black now.......... this doesn't look good at all

The account that's posted that seems like some idiot trolling, all the other most recent tweets are still following the most up to date version of events carried by the major sources.
Gary Hartstein seems to be suggesting we won't hear anymore till 10am from the hospital, so unless there is a sudden turn for the worse, I guess we've gotten all the information we will get tonight.
