Alonso in smoke on strat of the test. The F14 T has a big aero sensor mounted in front of the left-rear wheel, and this time there is no sign of the smoke plume that trailed the car when it left the pits for the first time earlier.

Sutil's 1:42,849 from his first stint is about ten seconds slower than the 2013 pole time of 1:32,330 and matches to fastest 2013 WEC time of 1:42,170 closely.

Now Hamilton does a new best time of 1:40,625 in his first timed laps, eight seconds gap to the 2013 pole.

Well these are mostly basic Launch Cars not pushing Times jet, the 1:32 was Qualifying.

That's a HUGE difference.

No sign from Red Bull yet. I hope they didn't mount the whole engine upside down this time...

Think of it as a practice session. Fastest time in P1 last year was a mid 34 and Marusia we're doing 40s.

There was mention on Czech page, they will go out of the garage soon... (Unless they mount some rear suspension sprung on the opposite direction  )

Red Bull almost lost another half test day yet. They must still be in trouble.

Yes I know it's only testing, but Kevin Magnussen down below Hamilton within 2 flying laps. Pre Jerez he was 40-1 for WDC.

Does anybody know why the white smoke? did the engine blew up or something?

skysports live report
According to Sky F1’s David Croft, Ferrari intend to “start to push parts to the limits of their durability” over the coming few days. Meanwhile, the plume of smoke spotted spewing out of the back of the F14 T on its first lap of the day has been attributed to a 'fuel mix' problem. Presumably that's F1 code for misidentifying the unleaded pump for the diesel.

The 2009 Toyota spewed smoke and it was normal, I wouldn't read too much in it.

My post above shouldn't be read as "the cars are slow". It means quite the opposite, if they can start with 1:40s right from the start, then we can expect faster times in the next hours and days.

Magnussen now did 1:39s...

"08:52 Magnussen back into the pits now, having clocked 14 laps in the McLaren MP4-29 and lapped consistently in the 1m39s."

and they will start to turn the engine up a little bit more as well. I expect the times to be much quicker in test 3
