F1 sold to Liberty Media. Bernie Out?

Post

Forbes have reported that F1 has been sold to Liberty Media, and Eddie Jordan is saying Bernie could be out when the deal is signed on Tuesday. [-o<
forbes.com wrote:The long-awaited sale of Formula One auto racing to John Malone’s Liberty Media conglomerate has crossed the finish line according to senior sources close to the deal.

One said that all terms have been agreed and all that remains is the formality of signing. “It is being signed on Tuesday,” he says with another adding that “it is going to happen. It is as done as it can be.”

Last time F1 was sold, Bernie made sure his job was secure before putting ink on paper, i expect nothing different this time.

As much as I would like Bernie to leave (and for all we knock Eddie he does get these things right a lot), I really can't imagine him ever leaving. Or indeed giving up his grip on the mortal world:

I doubt you'd find anyone who much likes CVC, but my concern is, in an increasingly commercialised and -let's face it - evil, world, are any new owners going to be much better?

Even with the sums involved (which don't seem that much compared to F1's yearly figures), I can't imagine Bernie and CVC agreeing to do business with any group that didn't have a general aura of malignant darkness around them.

So long as they don't restrict the free airing of F1 even more than it already is, or try to wrangle even more cash out of a sport when the second half of the grid particularly needs more of the profits not less.

I'd be a bit surprised if Ecclestone is shown the door.

Liberty Media has owned my hometown baseball team for the last ten years, and the company has more or less maintained a hands-off approach to day-to-day operations. Ordinary turnover notwithstanding, the executives who ran the team pre-Liberty are the executives who run the team now.

Also worth mentioning: Liberty has never imposed payroll restrictions and has demonstrated a willingness to make significant capital investments in order to improve the long-term health of the team ($762 million toward the construction of a new ballpark).

I read on the german website Autobild.de that Liberty is running and owning the Formula E.

Formula E is doing many things right currently. The CEO Agag might be following Berni.
And they will work out a social media strategy and reduce the payments of the racetrack owners.
Besides that they want lower gap between the financial contributions of the F1 Teams.
All quotes from the autobild.de article, there is also a pretty similar AMuS article.

At the moment it is so bad, i am sure anything would be better and a big chance.

Berni, Charlie Whiting and Herbie Blesh out => 2017 could be a real total restart.
Maybe someday i could stop feeling like strange Nerd, when tell somebody that
i am into F1. Today (in Germany) being an F1 Fan could make you sometimes quite
lonely, especially on some Sunday afternoons

A direct quote from The Telegraph: "Ecclestone described reports of a deal as 'b------t'."

And Donald Mackenzie, the chairman of current owner CVC, said “I would be very surprised if there was any announcement this week."

So it looks like even the sale is not so certain.

Surely such vociferous denials are a sure fire sign the deal is going ahead.

This sounds quite sad when you take into account that you have German drivers in some of the best teams.

Hahahahaha I was thinking on the same image. :D

It would be good to see Bernie out but perhaps the next one could be worse so I dont know what I really want...

read joe saward
to the optimist a glass is half full ; to the pessimist a glass is half empty ; to the F1 engineer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be

Fixed that for you.

If F1 is gonna take the Formula E media route, will their be fanboost for Kimi, Max and Alonso?
