2T/4T sound.

Would a V6 2T at 10000 rpm sound like:

1. A V6 4T at 20000 rpm
OR
2. A V12 4T at 10000 rpm
OR
3. unique sound


I would guess the answer is 1, but would like some input.

assuming you mean twin turbo or quad turbo, atleast take the effort of writing it like that.

and it will be 3 since there is no comparison, each engine with every alteration will have its own unique sound.

I mean 2 stroke vs 4 stroke.

I think it's 3. I started at 3, then thought 1, but now think 3 again.

The logic of 1 is sound, same number of firings per minute in the same number of cylinders.

However I think both the sizing of the exhaust and the displacement of the block will need to be different surely?

The same displacement in 2t and 4t should yield different hp which I think would sound different (based on nothing at all really...)

As for exhaust sizing, despite option 1 offering the same number of power strokes, the amount of fuel burned per stroke ought to be different and thus entail different requirements.

I'm no expert but my mind is wandering at trying to imagine what each might sound like.

I think if 2 strokes have such a huge bhp/litre, a 10k rpm 1.6l v6 wouldn't need a turbo. Add uncapped AWD KERS, and cut them loose...

Id bring back refueling, but would limit the hose to 13mm

To add something to the thread, correct reply is option 3. Sound is not only dependant on rpm, no valves and causing explosion each cycle or each two cycles change it all.

Compare a 2T 250cc MX bike sound with any other from a 4T, it doesn´t matter if it´s 250cc (same displacement), 500cc (similiar displacement per cycle), monocylinder, twin, rpm... no 4T engine will ever sound similar to a 2T 250. Using this example because, apart from I´ve owned a Kawa 250 2t for several years , this engine type and size have very similar options in 2T and 4T, like 250 4t, 250 2t, 450 4t... and there´s even twin cylinder wich was used on the RD350. But it doesn´t matter what parameter you want to keep constant, sound will always be very very different

As people have said, 2 strokes have their own sound and I'venever heard a 4 stroke sound like it. Like in motogp now they are using engines twice the size of the old 2 strokes and they sound nothing a like. So id be pretty sure on option 3.

But a mercury v6 sounds a lot more throatier than a V12

Its from the German 'takt' = 'stroke', or 'cycle', as in American usage..
