No reply from JAW claiming how much better is 2T compared to 4T yet?

Weird, he must be busy

To add something to the thread, correct reply is option 3. Sound is not only dependant on rpm, no valves and causing explosion each cycle or each two cycles change it all.

Compare a 2T 250cc MX bike sound with any other from a 4T, it doesn´t matter if it´s 250cc (same displacement), 500cc (similiar displacement per cycle), monocylinder, twin, rpm... no 4T engine will ever sound similar to a 2T 250. Using this example because, apart from I´ve owned a Kawa 250 2t for several years  , this engine type and size have very similar options in 2T and 4T, like 250 4t, 250 2t, 450
4t... and there´s even twin cylinder wich was used on the RD350. But it doesn´t matter what parameter
you want to keep constant, sound will always be very very different
Hey/ola Andres..

After all that blather..

Try this good ol' 2T '250' Kawasaki.. for an F1-like sound..

I don't know either
Its from the German 'takt' = 'stroke', or 'cycle', as in American usage..

Anyhow, here's a 2T/2S triple.. & to my ears.. it does sound somewhat current F1 like..

Thanks. An altogether more useful response than zynerji thought appropriate.

I learned it from the 2 stroke forum post on this forum. I didn't know where it came from.

not in the english vocabulary, perhaps you should learn to check yourself first.

It's part of the jargon used by insiders. You were on the outside but now, if you choose, you can be on the inside.

I am fully aware of the 2T and 4T usage being fluent in dutch, and having worked on both 2T engines and 4T engines,
obviously in dutch being '2 takt' and '4 takt'. But we're not talking English here, and there is no 2-tact or 4-tact.

There is two-stroke or two-cycle engine. not a two-tact engine in the english vocabulary and we are using that here.
What does exist is the term 'thermodynamic' , but is not used in general to identify a certain engine in any 'insider' jargon, that's just inventing stuff on the go.
Especially since nobody refers to a '4 tact' engine or a 4T engine.

FYI, not that it is any of your business, but I have studied in a not so insignificant automotive school called 'IVA Driebergen', not that that will set off much lights for the non-dutch members on this board but as for those that ARE dutch or have grown up here, and have anything to do with motoring and the automotive industry, will surely ring some bells.

But hey, i feel so privilidged to now be on the supposed 'insider' group.

Dude just chill out. All you had to say if you wanted to say anything is "oh i didnt realise that"

Castrol (english speaking company ) put 2T on pretty much all their 2 stroke oils.

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=castr ... 60&bih=560

Silkolene (German) are the same with most (all?) their 2 stroke oils.

Elf (French ) do the same.

Mobil (American) put it on their 2 stroke racing oils.

Repsol (Spanish) has it on most of their 2 stroke oils.

So most languages are covered there.

There's nothing wrong with not knowing that. There's a million things i dont know but i dont argue every time someone corrects me.

It's amazing how off track things become on this forum.

The worst part is that he already knew the answer to his own question, but chose to start a tangent just to get attention.

Thank you for telling me your education is none of my business while simultaneously providing said information unprompted, unrequested and tangential to the topic at hand.

Who cares about german? It comes from the spanish term tiempo=stroke :P

Just kidding obviously, I guess it comes from the first development of 4T engines by Nikolaus Otto
