was there actually car unveils 'in the old' days?

i know it's been around for some time, but i can't remember that in the days of mansell, senna, etc. there was anything but some photoshoot sessions, the drivers standing next to the car, usually on the actual test track. sometimes with the responsible crew for it alongside it. not neccesarily an unveil day in the modern sense of the word.

wasn't it more or less what was seen on the test track, and finally in melbourne?

Back then F1 wasn't big business as it is today, everything is about money, launches create hype and PR.
Hah! at the start of the 80s maybe. But I remember elephants at a benetton team presentation and other ridiculous stuff. actually I would say that the launch events these days are rather low-key compared with what they used to be.

I'd say car launches have scaled back somewhat in recent years. I mean the mid 90's to the mid-late 2000's they were maybe at the peak and 'big events', at least for the big teams. There used to be something done; big fan events, performances from known artists (did the spice girls do one once??), or just something to say hey look at us.

I think the last big on was maybe Mclarens 2008 launch, all though was it 2011 they did something different where they built the car in a city square or something like that.

Now it seems just online with only those important present, if that.

Personally going forward I'd love them to make a deal of it if. A big event thats at a different place every year. Lots of fans and all the teams take turns to release there car. A bit like that F1 live event last year but for car launches. I think you would get really good turns outs, tv coverage. Be good for the sponsors too so....

Yes, please! Let's have one big event for all teams together in the paddock before the first test. Some team rep should be interviewed about the technical novelties on their new contenders. Cars would be presented in the reverse order of the previous year's constructor's championship.

Chase Carey, are you reading this?

This would certainly get my vote!!
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

i fully back this.

put the cars in a huge half-circle , make it a big pr event, make a good show out of it. throw in some celebrities.
let all the drivers sit on their respective cars. one on the left front, other on right front wheel, and make a group picture. have all team bosses and responsible (chief) designers stand behind the rear wing.

or you can do like a 'catwalk' event where the car is on a platform that rotates 360 degrees.

Throw in celebrities ? You're not talking about any attractive female celebs are you ? As that goes against the latest fad.

On the suggestion being made, what a cool event it would be. Would love to see something like that. The trouble is, it would probably end up on pay per view!

Not sure where to post this so I guess here is best

motorsport.com website has a few of the latest cars featured with the interactive slide comparison pictures. I like to be able to compare the new cars this way and thought I would let others know

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/?tp%5B%5D=18

specifically McLaren

If they did it in an arena (thinking of the weather in the winter) with lights, big screens, speakers it would be awesome. I'd pay £20-30 to go.
