It was just a few years back that women were battling to be able to do as the pleased and now you want to remove that right?
They battled to be able to be in combat in the armed services. Surely if they have the right to fight in combat they have the right to be grid girls if they like.
What happened to women's rights?

Grid girl is only a job íf you are a girl, that is why it is not right. Women fought to be in the army because If a women chooses to be a soldier (and She complies with the function profile) She should be allowed to do the job. It is about equality.

Doing a job only allowed to be done by women has nothing to do with womens rights, nor with equality.

We all liked to see the gridgirls, and for the most part the girls will have loved the job as well but come on, don’t try to spin this into womens rights.

Now, please, before I catch all kind off flak again, likely hostesses and models attending races etc. Will stay as is, just the function gridgirl is what liberty chose to drop. I have not seen one women in the top liberty staff so I guess their motives are more window dressing then a genuine wish but who am I to second guess their motives.

But it doesn't get past the fact that some women now cant do a job that they wanted because men or women (women who dont want to be models) have decided whats best for them.

You are right. It’s called progress to only allow jobs and functions that both genders can do equally.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

If thats the case (which I can totally understand) why were loads of people going on about it being derogatory or degrading towards women, and how they wouldn't want their kids to do it ect ect.

Nobody is stopping women being models. If Liberty are going to start using "grid kids" then they are giving an opportunity to someone who will get a lot more enjoyment out of it than just a job. There are countless modelling jobs out there, but only 20 odd races a year where deserving and enthusiastic young people can get a once in a lifetime opportunity in a sport they love.

@Phil , sorry totally missed that.

@chuck it was over 1000 women a year involved with the show, so not a small amount. I feel the kids was a knee jerk reaction to the bad reaction from the fans.

If Liberty wanted to look good......

"We have decided to end the long use of grid girls and have decided to replace them with young enthusiastic fans/racers between the ages of 5-15 to give them a chance to be on the grid and stand side by side with their idols and will hopefully show the kids what they could achieve and become"

What happened

Liberty ditched the grid girls (what ever reason) realised that a large percentage of fans didnt like this , a week later a knee jerk reaction, decided to try and calm the shitstorm with announcing Kids would now do the job.

If that was the original plan, it WOULD have all been announced and done at the same time.

In your mind! In reality you have no idea, if it was a reaction or planned!

But you have to admit it looks like a reaction.

I sit about 75 feet from my companies PR team and walk past their meeting room about two dozen times a day. They are brain storming and cooking up crap like this all the time. A drip hear a drop drop there, always releasing just enough information to stay in the headlines.
