How do you make sure a team spends 175m annually? Thats nearly 50% cut for Merc and Ferrari.

Regarding three day weekends: isn't three days of work less than four days of work? That gives extra time for travel. Might be their logic. Similar to limiting testing days. There is a cost to a day. Whether or not it's effective... The HQs keep working those days.
In the article is was also mentioned that it stops teams from flying out new bits to the track after Friday, saving costs.
But with new parc ferme rules I don't think they would be able to put those parts on the car, would they?
Yes.. that's why it stops them from doing that :)

Maybe their dream/vision/goal is leaner operations allowing a race every week. If they can arrive Fri and depart Monday. Travel M-F, show on Sat-Sun. I wonder--does their imagined market even care for multi day events? Ditch quali days. Make F1 a one day show. Really, do spec cars need so much set up? Just fly the cookie cutters in Sun morning and fly them out Sunday night. Rapid fire events, pack the stands, make money. Casuals don't care. They get more bang for their buck.

I think it would be better if they go for 1 long practise session on Saturday, extend the qualifying sessions a little bit and put the cars in parc ferme when they are either finished qualifying or qualifying has completed. So you can go into qualifying and try some different things.

Then every 3rd or 4th race bring in a Friday practice session and then drop the in season tests they do.

Only issue is how they schedule in all the other support races.

While cost cap is important for survival of smaller teams, it is important to also look at the global viewership numbers.

The moment one comes up with restrictions, the team which does the best job pre-season ends up winning majority of the races making it boring. Remember the token systems for engine which literally stalled all other engine manufacturers attempt to catch up with Mercedes.

The article also mentions that teams are unhappy with the weight of car which is too high for their liking.

And about the restrictive rules
"These are standard cars through the back door," says an engineer. "The cars will all look the same and then can only be distinguished by the paint job. The DNA of Formula 1 is that we all come to different solutions. "Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto also criticized the too tight rule corset. "We can not differentiate ourselves enough."

A cost cap is much better than the stupid token system because it allows you to innovate your way to better performance. It allows the smart guys to be very effective with less money rather than locking in disadvantage like the token system did.

I think it cost cap would be far more effective if they also started with a standard common spec design, and then we're allowed to go into whatever Direction from there.

They would all be slightly different, but they would all start from the same base. Unfortunately there would be certain things that would not be allowed to change from the spec, but it would not be a spec series.

I hope Ferrari starts using its veto power to stop all these things!

And i'm still asking....why not implement a downforce limit like Le Mans 2021? That way when you hit that limit there is no need to spend any more money! Ok maybe making the car more efficient will be the place where money goes next but still this will limit a lot what teams can spend!
Same goes for other areas too...like the engine and maybe having standard Active Suspension i'd say!

Just give them the dimensions of the car, wings etc...and let them design whatever they want...!

You have no idea how many areas you can find to spend a lot of money just to find .1 second per lap on these cars.
If you limit the downforce, they will simply start to look for ways to achieve the downforce limit with less drag and the teams will spend exactly the same amount of money just doing that because it needs the same tools (CFD/Windtunnel) and the same manpower. Just the gains will be smaller.
The teams have their annual budgets and they will spend the money allocated in it unless the FIA mandates a budget limit.

because it would be unworkable in such a highly downforce-sensitive class as F1 ?

Can someone explain where the "F1 must be road relevant" crap comes from?

Nothing about F1 is road relevant; the entire concept of motor racing is an outdated idea from an earlier time.

Most of the development money is spent on aerodynamic tweaking of purpose built race cars with absolutely no relevancy to production cars whatsoever, or any real benefit, other than to make the purpose built race car go a little faster.

Can we please go back to a straight up 3.0 liter NA engine? Unlimited cylinder options, unlimited revs, unlimited fuel flow, unlimited development.

Remember when engines used to blow up magnificently in F1 races and how awesome it was!?

F1 is a snooze fest these days.

Road relevance comes from manufacturers needing a way of selling their $200million budget to investors. The idea that the whole this is just a huge R&D project for them. In reality the whole his is actually very good for marketing.
