What about a bombshell deal: Fred and Newey go to Renault and finish out Fred's career with the French manufacturer that brought him two WDC's...
Man, I'd love to see that. Sadly it will never happen (I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong :D )

As long as Abiteboul is there, Renault will never get where they want, and neither Fernando nor Adrian would even remotely concider going there.

I don't agree. It's not fair to judge him like that when you read about the resources that were available to him. Just look at the photos of Viri and you can tell they were seriously outgunned when compared to Ferrari, Mercedes amd even Honda. Abiteboul has been working to put in a lot of infrastructure. He's not chirpy and sure he seems like a blunt guy... But he is doing his work. More than Zak is doing for MfLaren that is for sure.

If Renault poached him somehow, they would be crazy not to point him to 2021 car directly..

So ALO will leave McLaren. Or Indy McLaren. But I doubt RIC would be half silly to do this.

As i understand it, he could get close to that from Red bull.
Ricciardo would never accept that. He wants a championship rather than money.

Yep, joining Maclaren would be as dumb as Webber joining Williams was, instead of Renault! Maclaren are a spent force with a lot of rebuilding to do.

As I said in the McLaren team thread. Maybe Daniel risks going to McLaren for 2 years (or on a 1+1 deal) to wait for a seat opening up at Ferrari or Mercedes. I personally think his reputation is strong enough that he could withstand it and maybe, just maybe, he likes the idea of building the team up around him as others like Schumacher have done in the past.

Djos, you mention Webber going to Williams, he then went on to RBR and very nearly won a WDC in 2010, so that’s not a bad example actually!!
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Yeah but he could have won a lot more than 9 races in his career had he gone to Renault with Alonso. Webber plus Alonso would have made for one hell of a pairing - good ol' Fizzy was just never in the same league as either.

Webber was a much better racer than Trulli and a faster, more consistent qualifier than Fissi.

Considering my innate respect for McLaren, I'd love nothing more other than have probably the most likeable bloke on the grid join them. McLaren could really do with a chap like him who exhibits positivity. However, my mind says no matter how much money McLaren throw at him, he's more likely to be a Renault driver than a McLaren one. I don't see him at Ferrari/Mercedes.

I think F1 needs to have a strong hard look at themselves. The once mighty Williams and McLaren are floundering around the mid and rear because they don't manufacture engines. It just doesn't seem fair.
