iirc I saw on tv on December 26th 1959 a special race for the new Minis ....
seconds before the start pole-man SM ran from car to car telling the other drivers to ....
race-start in reverse .... which they all did (just) ..... then recovering and racing in the conventional direction

only a few months later at Spa the tv was covering his bad crash in practice (and British others' crashes worse than bad)
