I find it very interesting, yet also dismaying, that we seem to be one of the worst countries for people obeying the rules and then people are crying out for and end of lockdown etc.
FWIW, in my experience visiting other countries at different stages through the pandemic, I do not think UK is one of the worst countries for obeying the rules.

Really? That genuinely surprises me!!
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

What does this mean to all the drivers who must go to the factory in theUK?

https://www.itv.com/news/2021-01-25/cov ... -look-like

Covid: What forced hotel quarantine for UK arrivals could look like

International arrivals will soon have to pay upwards of £1,500 to enter quarantine hotels in a bid to "protect the UK population and country" against new variants of Covid-19, ITV News understands.

Ministers are considering the measure in a bid to combat the spread of coronavirus variants, such as strains discovered in Brazil and South Africa which could lead to a further surge in virus cases.

It is understood there are currently disagreements, in the government, over whether to apply the new rules to just at-risk countries or globally.

ITV News understands that affected passengers will be escorted from the airport to the hotel - avoiding all communal areas and into a hotel room, where they will be required to stay for 10 days.

ITV News UK Editor Paul Brand reports: "Passengers will be given three meals each day, with security ensuring they do not leave the hotel.

"This will cost around £1,500 - to be paid by the passenger."

So it is worth while arrivals from South Africa or Brazil going to France or Nederland's and transferring to a short haul to UK?

Where you from? South Africa? this way to quarantine please. Belgium? off you go then

Except for seat fitting (Perez, Alonso, Ricciardo & Vettel)
Nobody really needs to go into the factory. Promo shots can be taken by local studios, meetings can happen on Teams etc.

Every driver needs a seat fitting for the new car. They always do before the season starts.
How about testing the new 2021 car in the simulator and new parts to see which ones work better.?
And I am sure there will be more things they need to do in the factory before the testdays will start.

They use the same tub as last years and almost all of the driver in the loop sim work is done with their sim drivers. So, it’s not ideal, but not a big thing.

Good gracious me! It’s alarming the things that fly by us and we don’t even notice? Putin truthfully admitted that he, early on, was injected with a vaccine. Then came Trump swiftly followed by Boris, each one claiming to have contracted Covid. Isn’t that remarkable? Two of the most cosseted and protocol protected people on the planet have each contracted Covid. Blimey! You can’t take it in, can you?
Well you can actually via a backdoor vaccine that can’t be bought! Then self-isolate for around ten days. Really! It’s proving to be the most fashionable way to protect yourself these days. Screw the crew and minions, look after number one then blind ‘em all with a bit-o’-kid-‘em. I wonder how similar upper echelons might-go/went about it?
Even if you are 'protected' you can still transport the virus. Bet your parents and grand parents would not agree
Woundn’t know mate. One case of farmers lung, the rest were skittled by cancer. Meantime I’m left wobbling, or what’s technically termed as COPDed, by multiple blood clots of the lungs. What a difference a dollar makes!

I would have expected the drivers that are driving for UK-based teams will be in the UK already, working in the simulators etc.

Once the season starts, the big issue will hit - if there is still a quarantine requirement then the teams will struggle to send track-side staff home as they'll be "locked in" for two weeks. So the first 2, 3 or 4 races could see mechanics etc., living outside the UK for several weeks.

Having said that, hopefully by the end of March there will be positive movement allowing the reduction of quarantine from certain countries. By April, UK Govt hopes/plans to have everyone in the UK aged 50 years or more vaccinated plus all "at risk groups". That covers the majority of at risk people and should allow them to feel they can open the country up. That will make the teams' lives easier.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

I don’t think that was a consequence of Covid, although one never knows.

By not too long after that there should be a large enough vaccine supply to allow it to be given (or sold) to traveling sports, as there is huge financial repercussions of cancelled events. This does not mean those vaccinated can be free to travel as they can still transport the virus, but could well reduce isolation to a couple of days with included testing.

Not much. It just means they have to spend 10 days in supervised quarantine, which is good practice -- and really this should have been the case for ALL international movements globally since February/March 2020. In Australia, it's 14 days and TBH with the new variants it should really be 21 days to err on the side of caution.

Obviously the reason for this is that it can sometimes take this long to develop COVID symptoms, and obviously the quarantine gets extended for arrivals who test positive on day 10 of quarantine.

Trying to subvert the rules is the exact opposite of what you should do! That's just not the approach to take when containing COVID19 is your number one priority as a visitor to the UK.
