As I said previously, we wont see the true speed of the car till all the parts have gone on..which wont be till tomorrow and even then we probably wont see this till Oz because they will have the track to themselves tomorrow. So question, have they really been in trouble or have they so far been testing various things and components but in isolation which makes it difficult for onlookers, armchair analysts/aerodynamicists/engineers/teambosses and all other pundits to judge anything without knowing exactly whats been tested.
Long experience has taught me this about the status of mankind with regards to matters requiring thought. The less people know and understand about them, the more positively they attempt to argue concerning them; while on the other hand, to know and understand a multitude of things renders men cautious in passing judgement upon anything new. - Galileo..

I thought these web sites update on-line. If you look at motor21 and thef1 they report he did those fast laps at quite different times!!!!

But for consistancy one of the best, with one of the worlds worst translations!!

Kovalainen has first 1:18:680 and 1:19:111 then. And after the Finn had made another round of his two timed laps down to 1:18:202 and then marked 1:18:751.

Different days, different conditions, etc. etc.

But the McLaren has definitely been looking better in the last couple of days. I think they've dragged themselves towards the front of the chasing pack, with Brawn and possibly Ferrari and/or BMW cleanly ahead. Hopefully that means that with a good drive and strategy they can aim at podium finishes.

I'm still hopeful though of further parts being brought to the car for the Friday test before the Australian GP that will drag them up to at least Ferrari / BMW level. I think Brawn may be out of reach until Europe though.

Time will tell!

Presumably with two timed laps there's still at least one laps worth of fuel to come out compared to the other timed runs - possibly more depending on what exactly McLaren are up to.

Man those green stripped tires seem only good enough for 1 fast lap... lose a half a sec on the second lap.

Depends on the car I guess. Brawn was pretty consistent.

it seems that for >5 stints there is no much difference from yesterday. They lap in 1:19.xx. But they seem to have found some speed on the quili runs.

You're very right, mid 1.19s outside of those 4 laps mind you they'll at least have Nakajima behind them...

Kuzuki is not trying for times - the car is good for 1:18:0's

thef1.es seems to think McLaren may be using KERS.

16:53h to Kovalainen they mark in the shale PUSH and to the following return SPEED. They are tests of the KERS?. 16:48h Kovalainen is in trail for lack of slightly more than 10 minutes for the end of the session. It has just initiated its first return time trial. 16:36h Kovalainen signs again a stint of five returns with hard tires with an average of return of 1:19,6.
