What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

I can't avoid the trolling: so Michelangelo carves the David out of the marble and Tilke can only do Bahrain International Circuit? Interesting...
I am not amazed by F1 cars in Monaco. I want to see them driving in the A8 highway: Variable radius corners, negative banking, and extreme narrowings that Tilke has never dreamed off. Oh, yes, and "beautiful" weather tops it all.

Slightly off topic ... Michelangelo had the luxury of metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals while Tilke was stuck with common limestone of the Eocene and Miocene epochs.

Tilke was only in charge of the excavation. The track itself predates the Muslim conquest.

No habla.

Nice shots of the construction work, though. You get a better feel of how busy the site is in video...

None of the shots before, or even the plans, demonstrate just what a dramatic elevation change there is.

4 or 5 race series are already signed up, with another one being announced soon, according to the man with the light blue shirt.

But this circuit looks very good, it would be a shame if I couldn't make it.

...and here's the Statesman story of how Tavo Hellmund & Kevin Schwantz designed Circuit of the Americas' track layout. Enjoy!

Good article. Who'd have thought such a grand scheme would have "a la Oulton Park" on the initial sketches alongside Interlagos and Eau Rouge?

That is the dumbest layout for an f1 track, looks like an enlarged go kart track.

An artist, he is not - but I wouldn't be hard on him. Yes, you can nitpick it, but I think the important point is that the basic idea behind the track is the product of a racing fan rather than a technician. There's a definite appeal to that, and I think the end result is going to be really nice.

I wouldn't want this to become a trend, though. It's cool to have one track that brings together some of the great bits of other circuits around the world, but to have more is to risk losing the individuality of each circuit.

That drawing fits to a tee my opinion of Hellmund. Well-meaning and enthusiastic, but also naive and a tad short on self-criticism. (eagerly awaiting the inevitable deconstruction of that little statement)

This track will be SICK!

To bad they did not went with the semi-insane Eau Rouge type of corner at T1 :)
