I think a shooting brake version of this would be better.

Sorry guys, have to ask even though its OT, where does the expression 'shooting brake' come from?
does it refer to something specific, or was there once a model called shooting brake and it became a generic (like 'fast back)?

It seems to be an equivalent of the British 'estate car' which was litterly the car you tour your estate in because it had room in the back for your 'stuff' needed to manage it? the shooting part I can follow, you put what you shot in the back, but brake?

146.000 pre-orders already for it. It is not about the car anymore is it? How come you order a car when you have no idea how it handles etc

I saw this on Facebook and couldn’t resist sharing here :D

I’ve gotta say, my first reaction was that Elon “Electric Jesus” Musk had finally jumped the shark, but to be honest it’s growing on me.

I wouldn’t buy one as in not a truck guy, but I would love a model 3 performance.

Finally some light on this. Excellent article, really impressed by MT:

https://www.motortrend.com/news/tesla-c ... ufacturing

“The plusses for a folded stainless steel, origami truck are compelling: no paint shop and no expensive tooling”

“... Ditch the heavy, traditional, body-on-frame, and rethink the structure as weight-efficient trussed bridge in its simplest load-spreading configuration: a triangle set on its hypotenuse. One side is the Cybertruck's wedgy cab, the other, its tapered, sail-sided bed, their meeting point at the truck's tall peak resulting in a huge cross-sectional area for maximum stiffness.”

“... But the aerodynamics of that peaky profile?
It almost looks like a deliberate, suicidal attempt to trigger boundary separation—a potential drag-raising catastrophe for limited-energy EVs. And an odd 180 turn from the Model X and Y, which have such delicately arched profiles precisely to avoid drag-raising trip wires like this.
Tesla might have erased the problem with active suction to bend the boundary-layer downward just aft of that peak. Gordon Murray's McLaren F1 used this trick, and SpaceX has plenty of expertise in active measures to manipulate airflow around its re-entering Falcon 9 first stages.”

Brake is a horse carriage style, used to train (break in) horses. Shooting brake is a carriage modified for hunting parties.

Typical 'modern' examples of a shooting brake are the P1800 wagon and the Reliant Scimitar. Basically a two door wagon with a sleek profile.

It's polarizing.
It got over 146k orders already, the Model 3 got 325k in the first week.
Though the reservation price is now just $100 and was $1000 with the Model 3.

The truck market is a whole lot smaller then the sedan market. So, those figures aren't bad.

Not quite right.

2018

Light trucks take a record 69% of U.S. market

Sedans are only a small proportion of the market.
