Curiously it isn't look too far from the machines of the "Cyber Formula" anime, and they were designed almost twenty years ago!

I wonder how long Adrian Newey spent on this, and I also wonder how long the tyres would last on a car like this. 2 laps? maybe 3 lol

I've just read the article on this in Car magazine and the impression I get is that Adrian had... Very little to do with this at all... It sounds like the people at GT already had the design and he might've suggested a few things here or there...

... I want to see them make one for real; anyone can make a digital one... Like I did!

This thing does not use a gas turbine for drive; how would a CVT work with such high RPM? The inertia of the chain / belt would be madness... A gas turbine will not be able to produce the torque for that kind of acceleration..

Oh yes there are some exhaust pipes also

Turbine could be used as the fan, they have high flow rates
Dont dream it, do it.

I cant understand why wouldnt Adrian put an entire wing shaped floor with sliding skirts together with the fans...

@Apex: a conventional fixed gear ratio could drop the turbine speed to near normal engine speeds and the CVT would do the variable bit... Williams F1 made a CVT that could handle 750 ish bhp... So its not completely unfeasible to double that...

Rearward Center of Pressure and "too much downforce" (blasphemy!) come to mind. Last but not least, having the car styled too much like a sportscar (e.g. LMP1) could have negative ramifications with Formula 1 fans...

Only sensible use of a turbine would be to recharge batteries.

I don't think so... the grayish things in the middle of the yellowish things (lol) are the suction holes and the blueish thing around the floor is a sealing of some sort...that's my best guess.

After a closer inspection, looks like there are holes in the floor in front of the wheel but in a bit towards the centre of the car. Look for the diagonal black lines. They supply a double diffuser.

The brown sections under the driver are funnels for the fan, sealed with the blue skirt. The silver looking bits are filters or ducting.

Re: Red Bull X1

The turbine would be good for sucking air from under the car, and the blowing the same air back into the diffuser at a high speed, with the CVT the suction would be the same at a low speed as well.

So could the holes in the floor be a turbine inlet and the side pods are purely for cooling?

They ditched the turbine for a twin turbo V6.
