its not just a dent, looks like they shrinkwrapped something under the shell.
You can see two lines going left from the "dent".

edit: maybe it´s an air channel and they thought nobody would notice if they just wrapped the sidepod?
looks weird.

Those lines from the dent, might be the reason the dent has this form.

I always thought the engine cover was made of carbon, but how does this dent?

Very thin carbon likely can still dent. the faint lines you see are the sides of the radiator. It seems the car had a little tap, I guess this can be pushed out from the inside like a normal dent (in thin steel) can.

That carbon is very thin and flexible around most of the sidepods - that dent may just be because it's a little tight/small and has pulled tight against the radiator (hence the rad outlines) and the 'dent' has formed in a hollow from the tension.

Probably fix it just by shifting it slightly on the fasteners.

How thin has carbon has to be, to be able to have a dent? Ure talking about super thin, maybe 1 layer carbon, only reinforced in 1 direction. Very strange tho!

Nah, even 1mm thick carbon you can bend back on itself even with stiff resins.

I know. But bending is different to a dent. A dent would made a crack, normally.

Nah, not at that thickness, I've had 3mm carbon/kevlar panels on a rally car that hit some concrete-filled barrels which pushed a dent 3x that size in the side, just pushed it from the inside and it pops back out. Imagine a dent in a plastic drinks bottle.

I think it was you that mentioned the stamp size sticker on the upper sidepod wing during pre-season testing. If I observe it correctly on the Melbourne pictures they no longer have the stamp fitted but instead it looks more like a dent now and on the crash impact structure wing there are 2 different stickers or perhaps holes.

This might indeed be a thinner material sticker, or the angle Of the lighting, showing the hole to be just slightly below the surface, even with the cover over sticker. Lower wing indeed has two attachment screw holes, in this picture they appear quite pronounced but that will likely also be due to the extreme light reflection, plus there are several other bodywork screws not added yet so they might just be clicked in place, not screwed or covered over yet.
