McLaren MCL34

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is that new just behind the number at front? S duct?
I’ve looked at pre Barcelona spec as well in this area, the chassis seemed too dip in the middle slightly, but I can’t see that here

My eyes aren’t that great, even with glasses! But that looks like an S duct...
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

That's likely a new heave damper in the front suspension. If it were an s-duct there'd be a vent instead of only a protrusion. Other cars have had a similar feature in recent years.

New as in, New to the car, or a new type to replace what was already on the car?

I just read up on it, seems like it is a powerful piece of kit for Aero, particularly in Mclarens weak spots of mid to high as well as dropping the rear end on the straights.

Drawing of Old vs New...
Looking at the old wing, you can clearly see that it's still very inboard loaded. This update seems to be a continuation in that concept to an even more inboard loaded profile, bringing them closer to the extreme Ferrari concept rather than switching from the outboard loaded to inboard loaded philosophy.

Any links to the read?

Re: McLaren MCL34

been going through pictures from yesterdays testing, and looks as if the picture and shadowing is playing tricks with us, i cannot find any other pics with a raised section there, and since, if the a suspension update was beneath, its not something they just add and remove so they would have run the cover all day, i quess
but would be nice if the introduced something/suspension to help the front to have more "bite" grip

You can see the raised section on previous pictures on this forum, very slight though
