McLaren MCL35

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

This is free shopping mall for aero engineers, to browse for ideas and understanding of different solutions from each teams and their cars, and a big pain in the ass for those who have their philosophy sorted since literally everything is visible due to the dirt acting as a flowvis.

SO.....finally a race where the MCL35 had some speed...albeit not really in qualifying. Do we think it is because the "update" package is finally working now or did they just find a setup/conditions sweet spot?

Everybody had massive problems with tyres, except for Mclaren. Even though they have the problem with fronts, both drivers are talented enough to control the issue. Sainz even managed to drive with softest compound as long as majority did with mediums. As allways, both drivers came alive in the last stint and bit off a large chunk of Albons advantage while he was allready complaining about his rears being gone.

The combination they went for with Mcl35 shows its streinghts at particular times and especially when needed the most. The car itself lacks a bit in qualifying, and in some cases at the start of races, but builds its pace towards the end. Sometimes it works great when there is enough time to progress and others struggling, and sometimes they fall short due to factors that make that window too short to get past.

Overall, a step forward.
