So basically, because the engine map alters the torque demand at the middle of the throttle travel range and not - as the regulations are worded - at the minimum and maximum throttle travel position, the map complies with the wording of the regulations and hence isn't illegal.

--- will be hitting the fan after this... Especially after that weird stewards explanation of why no penalties were awarded. We will probably see another rules clarification in the following days.

in the mean time Redbull get to race with a car with possibly not only a form of TC, but also a significantly more advanced form of exhaust blowing!

Wonder if the other teams have got their protest letters ready?

The FIA did went against its own stewards in the past; it could happen again and could be the start of another political storm. I dearly hope that will not be the case and that their will be a clarification next race; we don't need another juridic battle.

So the first guy says they breached the rule and the stewards says they dont ? Ok so if they dont breach the rule then everyone can do this?


FIA wants to ban something then opens the door to do it anyways, GG FIA!

more torque in the mid rpm range does not match to article 5.5.5:
5.5.5 At any given engine speed the driver torque demand map must be monotonically increasing for an increase in accelerator pedal position.

right?

not as long as the torque level does not decrease at any point between the min and max (given they mean the mathematical definition of monotony)

may not be simple, but if pretty much "state of the art"
the sensor is most likely fitted to the gearbox input shaft.

possible application
One of the recent projects was to develop a torque sensor for KERS capable of operation in extremely harsh environment of F1 vehicles. The sensor was capable of measuring torque generated either by the KERS electric motor or by the car engine at a very high speed of rotation up to 18000 rpm. In addition it survived very intense engine vibrations, circa 100g, while the temperatures ranged from 70 to 170°C. The SAW torque sensor was used by one of F1 teams during 2009 racing season.

because on track testing is very restricted these days :?:
and an engine dyno offers a much simpler and easier controlled environment for engine testing/tuning
