Flexible wings were mentioned purely as an example, not as a subject to talk about.

As I explained in my PM, it was a pre-emptive move. I'd have left it alone if there hadn't been a couple of replies picking up on the point, from there it quickly snowballs.

Lets get back to the RB8 .....

If its a cooling issue as RB has always claimed and still does, it won't affect them.
Watching F1 since 1986.

that Redbull reduced the ECU parameters of fuel consumpion to meet the new regs. and was much more unstabile!

But what happened to Renault engines in the offseason...Suddenly they don't need that extra cold-blowing to cool the engine ? Or rather, that claim was BS in 2011 when Renault used it as an excuse in Silverstone ? If they didn't modified the engine since then, that means some sort of cold blowing is permitted ( at least for Renault powered teams )? Why they didn't ask for reliability update if any blowing is disabled now...It's confusing...so what is exactly the situation with that ?

Renault modified some mechanic parts in its engine this winter in order to improve reliability, but it's not clear if they do not need cold blowing any more...

Generic posts on exhaust blowing have been moved to the exhaust blowing thread.

I've tried to leave ones that are technical and specific to Renault, apologies if one or two have been moved (or left) in error.

So speculation question here, but does anyone see RB changing exhaust position or trying something different in testing? The use of heat resistant material on the upper wishbone does look like a quick fix & maybe they're planning something different?

Yes it's very likely that they will update their exhaust position. Scarbs pointed out this suspension detail in his analysis.
With such a high top wishbone the lower rear wishbone is able to mount higher too. This wishbone is now effectively at the same height as the driveshaft. Not only is it inline, but the wishbone forms an shroud ahead of the driveshaft to offset the negative aerodynamic effect of the rotating shaft, in the critical area above the diffuser (Note: Fully shrouded driveshafts are banned). While this all appears to be logical, the lower wishbone is not a splayed as the upper wishbone. Having the inboard mountings very close to each other is not so good from a loading perspective, so there must be a reason to make the wishbone in such a compromised shape. Again this might suggest the new exhaust needs the wishbone in a certain position to work effectively. credit: scarbsf1

the reason the upper wishbones are high is so as to not interfere with the flow to the bottom of the beam wing.
The high pressure at the top of the beam wing is less sensitive to flow disturbances, and this is why it's best to position the upper arms in that region.

The lower arms are interesting, seems to be a multi link kind of thing going on down there. I think there are 3 joints down there, 2 either side of the the shaft for each side of the A arm and one for a toe link.

If you look at the pics the exhaust is blowing right under the suspension arm, could they be trying to create downforce on it ? Is it worth doing, or would it only offer minor gains ?
