Caterham CT-04 Pre-launch Speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

@zioture is right, the finger extension has a single vane trailing behind it. I didn't draw this in my quick sketch following the release of the video, but its clearly there.

hmm... The wing has large torsional loads around the vertical axis when cornering, so it makes sense to have a trailing vane attached to the finger like nose/pylon.

If the "finger" is perfectly round that's a bad aerodynamic shape. It would create drag behind it. I guess that's why there is a tapering vane behind it.

With reference to the above image of the impact area on the wall, could it be green =width of the two dummy cameras?

I think that the second design is more 'real'.
Look at the shape of the tip with two noses detached

indeed. if i look at that lower 'bulk' there, it reminds me of design interpretations posted before in the 2014 thread

Image

i think it'll look similar to this, just that the higher tip of the nose in this design rendering/drawing is much shorter and lower.

Tried to compare the new monocoque (the shapes) with the old one (the 2013 Caterham)
The coque they crash tested is boviously missing some parts/bodywork but is that important?
They are quite different.
The new coque's 'rear bulckhead'(?) which hosts the fuel cell looks slimmer and higher but its base is larger... and judging other screenshots, it has two reltively big cavities at the bottom...
No engine oil tank cavity is visible.
