Mercedes AMG F1 W06

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

wouldn't that just be the steering arm protruding as he makes a left turn out the box?

Ok, perhaps I should have specified I've not seen it exposed like that before (not saying it hasn't been)

or as suggested on fpassion they are testing a new third element on the front suspension and hiding it with a fake sduct

How does that work exactly? Like a third spring at the rear connected between each side?

So when both sides are under compression it remains stiff, but if its just one side it will compress.

Possible, but I would guess it would be more cleaver then to make the S-duct cover as wide as the chassis to hide all the bumps and springs.

Maybe they had some strange tubing to steer the air trough the chassis.

So they just removed that "third element" when they went to saturday? I mean on sunday they didn't run with bulge.

I find that hard to believe. It isn't a super secret idea to run a third suspension element.

They either put a bulge there and people suspect they are trying a new suspension upgrade or...

They put an S duct there along with a bulge that looks like they are trying an S duct with a suspension upgrade.

Last rumors says that the s-duct panel was to test the driver visibility with an higher chassis and that they were testing an hydraulic interconnection between left and right suspension

If it was for driver line of sight I would think it would span the full length of the bulkhead, not just in the center.

It didn't when Brawn did the same!

The blisters on the the Brawn did cover the edges of the drivers vision though, which does matter alot for driver visibility.

I think it is too late to do any testing for a higher chassis. The W07 tub would have already been sign off by now and well into manufacturing.

I think it is only an honest to goodness S-duct.
