A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
So anybody an idea what the chassis name will be? It's likely going to be either E23 or R32 (it's coincedence that the numbers are mirrored.). Historical data showed that back when Benetton got taken over by Renault at the end of 2001, the car's name changed from B201 in 2001 to R202. In 2003, this got shortened to R23. The last number would suggest the year, although even that has only partly logic applied because when we went into the new decade since 2010, the name did not change to R210, but to R30. The R31 in 2011 was the last car with the R in its name, so if I had to guess it would continue from there. But it's guessing.
The E in E22 stand for Enstone. The car will still be build in Enstone, so maybe they'll continue that tradition and name the car E23. Again, it's guessing.
I'm pretty sure when Renault raced in the in the early '80s their chassis designation was 'RE'. Though I'm sure it meant something different back then, it would be a nice touch now. 'R'enault 'E'nstone.

Thinking out loud...
RE meant Renault Elf, as the petrol company was the team's main sponsor (and the idea of Renault competing in motorsports came from Elf's then president, François Guiter)
Wrong topic. This is the car thread; driver line up belongs in the team thread, or alternatively in the silly season topic.
I think that due to Maldonado's departure, the 2016 Renault car will feature much lighter (less sturdy) suspension and front wing components, due to no longer needing to absorb multiple impacts per race weekend. This will open up vast new avenues of chassis and aero development for the 2016 Renault car.
williams didnt need no curb-impact protection anymore after maldonado left and they're at the front now!
i'll say it out loud: Renault F1 Team 2nd in WCC 2016
