McLaren MCL33 Speculation thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

This will be Nice. I race trim Renault proved last year that they are up there. Just the reliability wasn't just where it should be but they had the power... I am sure that Renault this year can be a big surprise,. Although Mercedes and Ferrari has done improvements, it is in their interest that the engine outputs does not differ too much.

I worry about the fuel....whit Petrobras Williams had 30hp deficit to Mercs in 2014.

Some sort of promotional stunt animals? Is this what they're replacing the grid girls with?

In race trim the Red Bull proved it was up there. The Renault continuously showed that it held back the RB13 at places like Spa, Monza and even Singapore where Daniel had to baby his car around to the finish and couldn't do anything to put Hamilton under pressure on a circuit suited to the red bull. Let us not forget Mexico or 3 of the last 4 races for Dany ric which cost him 4th place in the championship.

It was a gearbox issue for Dan in Singapore and Max won twice with Renault power, once on pure pace and he should have poled it there too.(Mexico)

And that engine had 2018 development parts on it already.

All he's saying is that the gap between the three PU isnt that big in race trim. But Renault is also working at improving qualy power and the new rules should make oil burning less advantagous.
Regarding reliability I think they'll fix it :P It took them three seasons to make their first gen PU reliable (the 2014-2016) and had the most reliable PU in 016, but they'll spend less time than that with this secend generation because the factory and the staff have improved meanwhile.

Whatever the optimism is at McLaren because of Renault, we would only see in Melbourne qualifying. As much as I would love to see Merc, Ferrari, RB and McLaren fight for chamipnship, the practicality is that, Mercedes PU is way ahead of everyone and last year, Bottas ran more than 7 races on one PU and pushed like hell in the last race with the same PU. That says something.

I agree (unfortunately).
