There is, anyone that doesn't think machining is a craft or art form has never done any or even looked at it beyond a quick google.

Indeed there is, as I said the machinist is responsible for setting it up. Which is extremely important. Nowadays there are groups within F1 teams that do the tool path programming which doesn't involve any code writing. It is all GUI based.

Philip no need to get defensive and make generalized comments. Manual milling and turning of course is a craft.

CNC machining requires just as much craft and skill as the best manual machining does. Its just a different set of tools.

That is indeed the wheel tether, made from polybenzoaoxide, aka Zylon.

So that tether has been snapped right off then? I wonder if the FIA will be looking into that, because that doesn't seem right - it wasn't even a big impact.

You can see the wheel is still attached to the car, but the sheath around the zylon has torn off, or perhaps this design has no sheath.
I remember some good articles in Racecar Engineering about the wheel tethers but that was about 15 years ago!

The tether we can see has obviously snapped off on the outboard side. Presumably it was cut by a sharp piece of broken CFRP. There are two tethers per wheel though, for exactly this reason. Obviously the other one has done its job. Still, the fact that this tether can be cut even in such a low-speed impact, is the reason why we have the halo.

It looks like a quadruple wing aeroplane, for at least there are 4 horizontal planes out there (not to mention the sidepod upper surface itself) ... there must be on of those placed in at or near the CoG, don`t you think?

And another question is why they are so good around Monaco and sector 3 in Barcelona? For they have the most mechanical grip or just the best suspension (with their bent upper front wishbone) helps them to ride better than anyone those sausage curbs, placed in strategic places like the chicane in Barcelona or in turn 10 and 16 herein Monte Carlo, where they gain so much from anybody else?

shorter wheelbase , very good aero , propably the best mechanical grip of front three

Ferrari were killer in Monaco last year with their short wheelbase and this year they fell back due to them wanting to claw in a Merc fast-medium corner advantage.

Question is, why don't Red Bull follow too? Or is the Renault (Tag, excuse me) just holding them back too much?
