Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The cape is shaped like a diffuser, indeed it's like a miniature car underfloor with a raised front edge and diffuser at the rear. The diffuser section is obviously being used a vortex generator and director. The vortex will be in the opposite direction to the Y250 one.

Reminds me the Auto Union Type C in this photo, no front overhang, loooong rear end..
Or Bonneville spec...
Speaking of which they should do that as a PR stunt at the end of the season.

Nosecone looks quite satisfied with the season so far.

Seriously though, the design around this area looks more advanced than other teams.

Is the side-pod top area vertically indented for Monaco or was it like this before?

It's always been like that, it has a flow conditioner that sits above it

It's a long walk from the McLaren garage.

I think I suggested that last year, when we first saw the cape. Looked like they were creating a low-pressure area under the nose, just like the floor of the car, and the air spilling off the sides of the nose would generate a vortex spinning in the opposite direction of the Y250, but I thought the spacing would serve to strengthen the Y250, since they'd both be spinning towards the ground in the space between them. I don't know the aerospace/aeronautical terminology, so can't describe it better than that, or by twirling my hands in the air, which you can't see. LOL.

They're feeding brake cooling through one of the triangulation holes in the upright's top ball joint extension. A nice bit of doubling up - the hole reduces weight and allows air through.

Different drums between left and right. The left one in the image has an open cooling opening. The right one in the image has a cover and additional strake in place.

Looks like no new mirrors again.

Bit of a shame as the new ones looked quite sexy.
