Renault F1 R.S. 19

Curious that Renault was doing the matte paint before it was "cool" but now they don't anymore.

I have a feeling that end plate design will be copied by a lot of teams. Looks like its essentially adding small wings underneath which will help keep airflow attached under the wing.

The car just had a bad DRS failure, the whole flap ripped off the rear wing, thankfully Riccardo was able to keep it off the walls

Not only that, creating an upwash behind the car also will make the diffuser generate more downforce. Anyone have any clear negatives regarding airflow from this endplate solution?

I don't think its gain comes from the angle of the elements itself, but rather it's angle in regards to the vertical elements. It essentially comes down to a more extreme version of what teams started doing last year

Some of the other teams are moving air outwards, which also helps with the expansion at the back. The diffusers aren't only expanding air upwards, but outwards, too.

Looks like renault still hasn't gotten the DRS flap fixed since last season... I remember Hulk complaining about stuck (open or closed) DRS for more than once. And now the drs actuator failed again...

The DRS opened further than it should have ... the center part went higher than the outside

Getting downforce through the rear wing endplate

Post

Getting downforce through the rear wing endplate

Renault F1 have arrived at Barcelona with an interesting update on their car, one that was photoshopped away from its launch renderings.

It may appear like a no-brainer, but {Renault} has become the first team to generate proper downforce through vanes on the rear wing endplates. While other teams limit themselves to vertical vanes that help clean up the flow or inject some more airflow underneath the rear wing, {Renault} have taken a different approach.

Still going on with the aerodynamic development of the curved rear wing endplate, the connecting vanes between the upper and lower section of the endplate are shaped to guide airflow upwards, working along with the rear wing and the upward pointing

It looks like the end plate is starting to crack in the second photo in two locations. I haven't seen the DRS failure, but did the end plate come off first?
