Renault F1 R.S. 19

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The packaging looks similar to last year which is no surprise but I wonder what's that black thing around the intake plenum area (with the three temperature stickers) RS.18 didnt have that and it doesnt look like the usual streamlined internal bodywork that many cars have, it looks thicker. And that thing isnt present at the right hand side... https://cdn-1.motorsport.com/images/mgl ... ine--1.jpg
It looks like a flat tank or or a flat air duct...

The Y250 area is unconventional. What is the advantage of this design compared to the other teams (below)? Why the turned-up element on the Renault?

Red Bull have a similar main plane (divides into two elements outboard), but they do not have this up-turn on the first Y250 producing wing tip -- so why do Renault have it?

Dunno what advantage they bring (higher vortices?) but Renault used them last year for the whole season AFAIK.
And the solution isnt new to them; with RBR they used them and ditched them several times since 2010 : P

The Y250 isn`t formed on the part of the wing.

My guess is that the straighter element creates less drag and downforce.

And now Abitebul go home, hopefully

From last of top teams to deep midfield. Is better you retire from chassis builder and keep focus on engine for MC Laren with a good alliance with them

Hulk had engine issues, otherwise it would be around 6th place for sure.

The midfield is so incredibly close, it hardly means anything.
