Renault F1 R.S. 19

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

Interesting. It seems that they've abandoned angled exhaust/wastegates

And again. Render looks like the real thing +- few simplified parts as floor and etc.

Live presentation was just last year's car with 2019ish FW
Maybe due to the new reagulation about the rear wing... now it's too high to have the same aero effect as before, i we can see below on Morteza's comparison :

All the teams give renders of the "real" 2019 car and present a 2018 car with a 2019 Front Wing!

It looks like Renault is stepping it up a bit this year...nicely developed sidepod inlets, although no one seems to run Ferrari's upper inlet from above the sidepods...they just place the inlets higher and the crash structure underneath! I really want to see if they will use with this kind of rake come monday...!

Isn't the bodywork over the PU and the sidepods alot slimmer this year?
Yes, they cleared quite a bit of space on the coke bottle, getting more airflow over the top of the floor. Also Red Bull styled sidepods.

Great strides in packaging, although the engine is probably the most anticipated part of the car this year.

"We've had the best winter of the last five years," said engine boss Remi Taffin.

Front top wishbone trailing pick point is angled ultra aggressively
And the cavities behind the drivers head and shoulders have a singular shape.

Those front wing end plates look so big now they are clean and tidy. Just how big are the end plates these days ?

In side view, they are in a projected 129 375 mm² area. However, since they bend, they are bigger than that in reality. In comparison, last year's rules dictated a 95.000 mm² minimum area in sideview (which is assumed most teams stuck to the minimum).

So what sort of length and height are we talking ?

-2018: 200x550 (but only 95,000mm² had to be covered of that)
-2019: 225x575 (which the rules specifically state have to be fully used)

Let me do a quick visual impression

I think i read on Twitter its not a new car at all...just some new aero parts on old chassis.
They are pushing development so hard, they are not even sure if they'll make it to monday.
Cyril Abiteboul wrote:Managing director Cyril Abiteboul says that while he still thinks the team can make testing, he says a shakedown planned for Saturday at Barcelona is now in doubt.

"It's super tight," said Abiteboul, when asked by Motorsport.com about how late the team was with building its car. "But we still have good reason to believe that we will be able to test.

"If I share a little bit of a secret, we are due to do a shakedown on Saturday, during a filming day, and that may or may not take place as we speak."

Pushed on if the team was certain to be ready for the start of testing on Monday, Abiteboul said: "No. As we speak, we are 100% sure of nothing.

"There will be two drivers, they will be there if you want to have a chat and a coffee. We should have a motorhome and a coffee machine working, but that is as far as I am 100% sure!"

It seems that there is a lot of erasing photoshop going on between the nosecone and the splitter area, they clearly want to hide a new turning vane design.
