McLaren MCL34

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Yeah, kinda. Mercedes and Red Bull also have mirrors like that.
Ferrari were the first to do that. Creates vortexes and reduces drag.
I'm not sure they reduce drag at all; if anything it adds onto it. The primary purpose is to create downwash towards the diffuser. Ferrari likely dropped it because they introduced a different mechanism that uses the cooling vent on the halo mounting and the mirror's support structure to achieve somewhat the same effect.

I beg to differ

I think this twin channel on the raised outer sections of the tea tray is part of the floor update, before was just a raised section
Nah actually not
would be nice with diffuser pics also
That they run these meassure equips could indicate further tweaks forward on the car but lets see

It seems that Mclaren won’t be running the “spoon” shaped Rear Wing that they used at the beginning of the season in Canada

Well, at least we know why the new rear brake tins/winglets - must be to work with the new floor treatment in front of the rear wheel.

I understand your position but Autosport isn’t exactly very reliable in terms of technical accuracy like many others in f1 journalism bar few. Looking at the structure gives us the best idea of the intended flow treatment. In this case, the mirror structure itself remains the same however there’s a downwards shaped winglet on top which can only serve to create downwash in harmony with the new mounting structure. This sidepod downwash then ends up in the diffuser. Just like the vortex generators on Mcl33/32.

Probably have the other version on the second car. Back-to-back testing.

Hadn't they stopped using the spoon shaped one since the Spain upgrades?

Yes, they had a new higher downforce rear wing in Spain. But one would expect them to revert to the spoon shaped lower downforce spec on a track like Montreal. But like has been mentioned, could be on one car, so they can run back to back.

I guess not just yet, there were changes to the car, but I think they're subtle tweaks.

There seems to be an update on the bargeboard area... Hard to tell with the angle of the picture
