2019 car comparison thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

Judging by the red canisters below the heave element the Red Bull and Torro Rosso are using both Belleville washers AND hydraulic elements, along with torsion bars, mounted horizontally compared to last year’s TR where they were more vertical.

Engine cover. Low-wide Scud vs tall-narrow Merc.

Sidepod inlet location is striking. Use the front edge of the cockpit opening as a refence and you can see how low and forward the Merc's are compared to the Scud's high and rearward location.

Nothing new, just a good photo.

The cutout at the top of the Scud's side-pods give the illusion of them being more rearwards. If one focuses on the undercut region from the bottom intake lip, it can be seen that both are similar in their fore/aft positioning, the Scud's is only slightly more rearwards, as can be seen in the profile pictures above.

Can someone elaborate on Dipesh1995’ post? I’m interested to know the differences in philosophy in Merc en Fer.

1. Merc nose has a steep drop down in comparison with Fer. You can see in Dipesh’ post that the nose is almost already halfway down the wheel. Ferrari’s nose is more slowly coming down. What are the pro’s and cons’s for that?

2. It looks from the side that Ferrari’s engine cover is tight vertically but they have a big shark fin? Why is that?

Gloss tires give some idea about camber. Rear of Ferrari seems mostly scuffed. RB less so, implying rears may have more camber. Front tires on all of them similar--outer third not contacting the ground unloaded in the pitlane.
