Mercedes W11

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned, but another of the upgrades brought to the Spa race weekend, was a new fairing for the central support strut of the Halo. In profile view the new fairing is curved, whereas the old version was straight.

Mercedes also trialled a couple of different cooling solutions on the car (none were new AFAIK):

The top arrangement first seen at Spa, appears on first glance to be less elegant and more bulky than the older style which was almost identical (looking at the rear), but with the ducting placed lower along the flanks of the car. I think the purpose of the new arrangement, rather than purely cooling, may have been designed to allow a greater mass flow of air through the coke bottle region.
Are my eyes deceiving me or is the halo strut now much much wider than at Spa?

It does appear to be, doesn't it?

The slats atop the sidepod inlet were also reshaped in Belgium.

In general, the photographers seem to be doing a much better job this year.

As clear as mud.
What was the 3rd setting for the ERS?

Qualifying/ Overtake / lap 1
Race
Race plus
Saftey car / VSC / Pit etc

They have a bunch a modes. I couldn't tell you which one is more ERS variant or what. I suppose each Race modes has different ERS settings.

I don't remember where I got this from, but this was sitting in one of my folders.

Or this from a few years ago. Bit different to yours though.

Someone now got an idea what the numbers in brackets mean?

Possibly the number of times used. Or number of uses in laps remaining?

PZ you mean the numbers in round brackets? I think that is laptime sensitivity.

0 is baseline and all positive numbers are a laptime increase in seconds.

Or maybe not since qualy is also a positive number..

It cant be laptime as i would expect strat 2 to be 0 in that case and then they all increase from that. Start 2 and strat 6 are the same, which also rules out anything to do with engine wear.

Mercedes changed their settings I believe in 2019. Not sure, but it's not set up as in your picture anymore. Perhaps it was even because of that picture(?) But I guess they assume other teams already know. Anyway, Moore77's seems to be the current one

Wonder why it says to short shift on all pit exits in the driver notes section?
