Anyone know what this is for ?

Isnt it just the whole car from above to use for marking the pit box, the garage space ect so they have everything lined up for the car. Mclaren do it this way rather than measuring it with a tape measure. So basically its just a top view of the whole car.

not accurate meassure by any means, but gives an idea of the proportions and length, the mclaren, which is confirmed to have a longer wheelbase, and it does look like a long mofo to me. Judging by the w11 and rpw10 its also the right way to go. Gives a more stable platform, with more df. Rbs short car no doubt is very good, but it did seem a bit edgy this weekend and i think the concept is more difficult to master. Add to that, mcl swithcing to merc next year, and it makes perfect sense they increased the length.

What’s with that chipping on the corners of the diffuser blades? Is it wear or intentional? It looks too symmetric to be accidental imo.

They lacked front wing DF and had oversteer. I don't think you can make the jump that it has anything to do with car length. I also don't think the McLaren is anywhere near the lengths of the Merc or the Ferrari. The. Ferrari and 8 other longer cars were slower than RBR in quali.

where did i call the rb slow? i just said i think its more difficult to master their short car high rake concept, then the longer limo layout of merc, mclaren increased also the length, even admiting, i think it was for aero purpose. But yes, it seem rb maybe just didnt get their car dialed in, we will se soon

Why is the edge of the diffusor white? Different material?

it could be because it's rapid prototyping, or just a contrast paint that makes it easier to see the flow wiz ...

I figured it was just shining in the sunshine, all looks like 1-piece CF to me... except the corners and support brackets, they look to be made of metal

Metal insertions for structural rigidity. They're all over the car, especially bargeboards. Some teams like Haas would make whole parts out of metal, like the vortex generators on the floors.

Those are the metal bits not chipping

I think the metal joints in the middle of the 3 outer winglets let them try different winglets, if you look at the cf ones, the have a curve, and the white ones go down straight. Which let me believe they are prototype parts ...

I know what you mean, it can be seen on the older diffusor version. But by the new one it`s the left and right 1/3 of the diffusor. And i don`t think it`s a reflection because i also noticed it on the moving car.
