2011 F1 car concepts

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Last week in January with no date being set yet.

I thought Renault would be the first to launch. They are launching at the autosport international on the 15-16'th of january.

Then Ferrari at the last week of january.

Then Sauber and Toro Rosso on 1. Feb.

I think the Renault will just be a resprayed (Black and Gold) R30.

It could be. But why would autosport make any sort of fuss over a resprayed R30?? They have allready unveiled how the livery will look like so nothing new there...

The Autosport 'launch' looks just like a Lotus event to me, not an LRGP one...
The LRGP presentation will be surely made in Valencia...

Mercedes did the same thing in 2010, unveiling a BGP001 in Mercedes livery before unveiling the W01 a couple of weeks later.
As far as Im aware Ferrari's will be the first official public unveiling. The rest will be intoduced the day before Valencia or online as has been the case with Mclaren.
More could have been done.

Merc did the same thing in 2010 because their livery was not officially shown to the world, that was the first time.... but here their livery is officially shown to everyone so..

Exactly.

But i still have my doubts that it will be the R31. Because the 15-16 of january is quite early for an unveiling. But it still dont se why there should be any sort of event in showing a resprayed R30 when the livery allready is officially shown to the public.

Siskue

I'am not 100% on wether it is the finalised livery, or wether the car was officially represented to the press as the 2011 livery.
From what I can tell it is exactly as Mercedes have done, they released a CGI image on announcement, then a livery unveiling date, before the car is revealed at the test track.
More could have been done.

+1, it's definitely just a livery launch with the 2011 car to be unveiled on the 31st Jan the day before hitting the track for the first test.

Does anyone know whether a sharkfin solution like the Renault used to have (pre-Spa) would still be legal? Or would that also fall in the zone where no bodywork is allowed?

So long as it doesnt fall within a set range of the rear wing it will be ok.

"3.9.1 No bodywork situated between 50mm and 330mm forward of the rear wheel centre line may be more than 730mm above the reference plane."

That settles it i believe. It is only the livery that will be shown on the autosport international event.

Sorry if this is a bit OT... Im of a firm belief that there should be a unified launch day or days.

If all teams can launch their cars say a week before the first test session starts it would be idea. Say they go to a exhibition centre and tech team havs an hour in the lime light, before the next car comes on stage.

Say have it that the Constructors champion comes on the the stage first with their car, unveils and has a small press confrence that lasts no longer than 30 mins, allow the photo guys as much access as posible. Have the Drivers (Including test & reserve driver) on stage, with the team principle and designer say.

6 cars on day 1 and the final 6 on day two.

I think it would create an ammount of excitment that would be un-rivaled. Also have it on TV, even if it was on BBCi or something with comments from the BBC 5Live F1 guys for example.

Also have it that the teams have to have their driver lineup finalised for that event as well. Also make it that if you dont attend that event, you arnt in the final entry list???
