Panis wasn't RIGHT at the back in 1996 ... but such an event today would be akin to a Team Lotus win ...

Trulli's pulled off a win at Monaco before, so why not? ;)

Winning in Monaco is all about qualifying on pole, imo

This year I reckon anyone in the top 4 or 5 could win as long as they have good race pace and pick/luck into the correct tyre strategy.

Or a saftey car at an oppurtune moment could throw it wide open.

You have to appreciate the unpredictability of Formula 1, really looking forward to this weekend.

Ligier were an established midfield team in 96. It would be the equivalent of a Force India/Sauber/Williams winning.

Actually, you're right : Force India would probably be the best example. Former race winners (in their Jordan guise) having slowly slipped backwards, but still showing occasional potential.

That analogy works for me :)

Renault will pole this race. Heidfeld's first win of the season.

Kinda like Truli's monaco win.

you hear it here first folks. R31 monaco special to surprise all.

Hope the EBD ban is delayed.

It would be interesting if you could program the KERS to kick in smoothly so you could use it to power out of a corner. It seems Vettel was doing that in the final corner in the last race, but that's because they have downforce galore.

Nah, I called it first in the R31 topic after witnessing the awesome traction on the car at Malaysia. :P

Dear friends, what will be the pole time around with these tires?

Approximately 1:13,200 maybe?

Will be interesting to see Ferrari's performance this weekend after their organizational turmoil. When one of the top men in an organization gets kicked to the side, there are usually ripples at other levels in the org. Suspect Massa will be negatively effected; Alonso far less so.

Can't wait to see drivers in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th trying to balance the advantage of the 'undercut' Vs the risk of coming out amongst the slower traffic of 8th, 9th, 10th etc.

It'll make for the difference between a magical strategic win, and a few disastrous "Abu Dhabi Alonso Specials" happening!

Can't predict who's going to get it right, but Ferrari are a sure bet to get it wrong.

Ferrari will be quick, like last year and 2009, and Pirelli will bring Super soft and Soft tyre, the best tyre for Ferrari.
