Formula 1 cars catch fire, Heikki in Singapore last year for example. This design brings the fire too close to the driver, as you have said.

For this reason, it simply must be banned.

Exhaust pipe were failing, it was going to happing at some point regardless of the long pitstop.

It was a really interesting idea for us guys at the start of the season, but it's just proved to be far too dangerous now.

Ted explains how Renault have discovered the Exhausts on both sides were disintergrating even before the pit stop.

EDIT:
He also confirmed the explosion was caused by the nitrogen tank used for the valves.

Here's a video of the incident after Nick ejected.

Vettel 234
Webber 149
Hamilton 146
Alonso 145
Button 134

Right now there are 200 points to play so it's still very open. It's not possible for Vettel to wrap things up by Monza either. The earliest possibility is Singapore (race 14, 5 races left, 125 to play for). Do note that in all of my calculations I put him up has having clinched the title by 1 point at least; and I don't take into account countback as there are more races left than Vettel has already won this season.

In order for Vettel to wrap things up by the Singapore race chequered flag; he has to, over the next 3 races, outscore:
Webber by 41 points (13.67 average)
Hamilton by 38 points (12.67 average)
Alonso by 37 points (12.33 average)
Button by 26 points (8.66 average)

For him to do so by the Suzuka chequered, he has to outscore (over the next 4 races):
Webber by 16 points (4 average)
Hamilton by 13 points (3.25 average)
Alonso by 12 points (3 average)
Button by 1 point (0.25 average)

By Korea, it changes the picture dramatically, as Vettel just needs to "not lose" points rather than "gain points."
Webber can catch him by 9 points (1.8 average)
Hamilton can catch him by 12 points (2.4 average)
Alonso can catch him by 13 points (2.6 average)
Button can catch him by 24 points (4.8 average)

By India:
Webber can catch him by 34 points (5.67 average)
Hamilton can catch him by 37 points (6.17 average)
Alonso can catch him by 38 points (6.33 average)
Button can catch him by 49 points (8.17 average)

By Abu Dhabi:
Webber can catch him by 59 points (8.43 average)
Hamilton can catch him by 62 points (8.86 average)
Alonso can catch him by 63 points (9 average)
Button can catch him by 74 points (10.57 average)

By Brazil:
Webber can catch him by 84 points (10.5 average)
Hamilton can catch him by 87 points (10.875 average)
Alonso can catch him by 88 points (11 average)
Button can catch him by 99 points (12.375 average)

Now I hope I haven't scared anyone off here; and that you all understand the numbers. Cya in 4 weeks guys

Let's be honest, the RBR team won't have Webber challenging Vettel so much that he'll he"ll be holding off the rest of the field. Webber in p2 is what they want. If Webber can remain in P2 and Vettel be given a 30s lead head of the other drivers, they will clinch this by Suzuki, no doubt. Webber's race was his to lose, but I'm glad to see that he's still in P2. RBR better be thanking it's lucky tars to have Webber to keep them in the constructor's at this point. Good for Webber and I hope he finally gets a win at the next Grand Prix.

What is most enjoyable about his commentating is that he is really honest and level headed. He would say straight away that he does not know something when he does not it, rather than making excuses or switching topics. He is also very focused on minute but important details of the race. He has many occasions spot out details on that we all probably missed.

I really think he is a really good bloke!
+1 He is the best sports commentator I know of.

I agree, now that heΒ΄s taken of the suit he seems like a very cool dude.

Him and Chandhok are my favorites in commentating.

You want to know how I figure out that he is snitching?

Snitches are very similar to whistle blowers - except most of the time snitches snitch for personal gain/satisfaction. So when you hear DC blowing minor racing incidents of a select group of drivers out of proportion and repeatedly calling for harsh penalties until the cows come home - you know he's snitching because he does it ALL the time and that is not his job as a commentator - what does he stand to gain from doing that?

Anyway - I still haven't gotten over the switch to super softs on Hamilton's Mclaren. Total disgrace. How was he supposed to win the race 30 laps on super softs and the pursuer only 7 seconds away on prime? In the words of Fernando Alonso, THAT IS F'ing RIDICULOUS!

Or as in Hamilton's words, "Whose call was it to put me on options? Frickin' terrible idea!" a la Melb 2010
