OK example because "expectation bias" from no action by FIA is strong, since there's no action nothing happened, if there's penalty something must have been wrong It's the last race of the season. Rosberg has 5 points lead. The one that wins the race wins WDC. Rosberg is leading, Hamilton's behind, Rosberg is struggling, he loses the car, runs wide but slams on the throttle when rejoining the track, loses the car and slams into Hamilton who was just passing (I would add and tyre decapitates Chilton but that would be different and cruel). Reaction - nothing, perhaps they should be advised in the future to be slightly more cautious.

That is why he only had the problem at the restart and after the pit stop. (every time he moves from neutral to drive).
I can't imagine Mercedes bringing Hamilton in for an unnecessary 2nd stop if that were the case.
But Hamilton didn't have any problem, did he?
No but teams are always paranoid about their remaining car when one has retired, especially when only 2 races ago both cars had exactly the same issue.

Unless of course this was the "tip" from Rosberg ;)
Tires were good to last to the end, but inducing neutral was their last chance of hope.

(i´m joking obviously)

These tire marks on the barrier are from the secondary impact. The first one actually uprooted one of the struts.

OK I'll waste my life a bit to avoid it's "unsubstantiated claim". I put questionable/close ones to show it was done on purpose all the time:
1: defending against Bottas, off? 9Image
2. After Alonso overtaking him - you can question but off track + corner + gain (against Magnussen) forced? See: Gro-MassImage
3. Very next lap hahaha - 9Image
Next lap Copse sadly we can't see
4 hahaha - 18Image
5 Another Copse?Image
6 Another - 18 now Alonso complains after 3 unquestionable off trackImage
7 Close one?Image
8 Another - 18Image
Couple close ones in Copse somewhere in there(no screens)
9 JokeImage
10 Not 9, 18 but off=attempt=gainImage
11 Overtake itself, nice, another jokeImage
6 unquestionable ones including 2(3) on overtake lap

Nice, so a bad practice start then nothing until lap 20 when it stopped working.
And as Paddy said, it seems to have solved itself after lap 20 and stayed good for about 10 laps until it really broke.

Edit: this was pretty interesting,

31 Tony Ross Nico Rosberg Stand by. So we’ve got about thirty seconds before we need to turn off, Nico…

They have a time limit set up where they have to solve it otherwise they have to kill the engine.

Brake magic? :)

Jock Clear Lewis Hamilton So you’ll be in strat mode five and we’ll run the brake magic until I tell you to get it off.

After all the running wide, he did not gain an advantage (still behind) so why penalize? The place he tried his overtakes were on wellington straight, luffield and into copse.

Well he ran wide at the very corner he made the pass. I still can't believe he got away with it.

He ran wide in copse - that's the corner he passed at. The reason he ran wide is because he braked later than Alonso.

or just maybe the ICE is generating heat as it is idling and needs air flow through the radiators to keep it from overheating?

Because it's against the rules and they were told they would be penalized for it. Pretty straight foreword... The track is the track and they are/should be required to stay on the track.
