Is it me, or is the Haas just as tidy as the RBR in those pics?!?! :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:
It's just you - look at where the front wheels "meet" the sidepods - the RedBull is hugely more tight.
I dont see much difference. Those pics show the Haas with a bit more steering lock, so that is not a great way to measure.

Mid 1m19.xxx for pole!
No hypersoft, no new tarmac. Therefore I say a high 1.20, mid 1.20 at best.
You may be right. Hamilton's race pace in testing was nearly 4 seconds faster than he managed in the race. Let's say 1.7 of those seconds is due to the tarmac, another .4 because of the softer rubber. That leaves nearly 2 seconds down to the chassis, so let's say pole improves by 1.8 seconds, or a 1:20.3. That would put fastest race lap in the 24's which means this year the cars are the fastest they've ever been, even the cars from the re-fueling days are slower in race pace.

A car that is faster by 2 seconds in race, is also going to be faster by only 2 seconds in qualifying? With all the power modes that are used in qualifying and fresh set of tyres, meant for just one fast lap?

Lewis Hamilton 10/11
Sebastian Vettel 7/2
Max Verstappen 9/2
Daniel Ricciardo 8/1
Valtteri Bottas 12/1
Fernando Alonso 18/1
Kimi Raikkonen 33/1
Carlos Sainz 100/1
Nico Hulkenberg 100/1
Stoffel Vandoorne 100/1
Esteban Ocon 150/1
Sergio Perez 200/1
Kevin Magnussen 500/1
Lance Stroll 500/1
Romain Grosjean 500/1
Sergey Sirotkin 750/1
Brendon Hartley 1000/1
Pierre Gasly 1000/1
Charles Leclerc 1500/1
Marcus Ericsson 1500/1
Funny to think that in football terms Charles Leclerc is 3 times more likely to win this seasons WDC than Leicester were to win the league in 2016... still little point in putting a fiver on him!

I think its just going to be a Hamilton masterclass, sadly.

I'd like to think of it as, an epic three way battle for the final podium step, numerous position changes between 3rd, 4th & 5th, a'la MotoGP style battle. Rather than a conga line.

Hoping Sky commentators, especially Crofty, learn to take breaks during the race this year, so we can enjoy pure race sounds. Would be great at the start if they didn't say anything until after the first corner. So viewers can fully appreciate a race start. Him shouting "IT'S LIGHTS OUT, AND AWAY WE GO", it adds nothing and is neither iconic.

The potential scales, look at all the race fastest laps by Hamilton and compare his q3 time, it's right around a 4 second difference, and around 2 second difference from fastest P2 time.

Ham fastest lap in the Barcelona race 1:23.5, q3 time 1:19.1 a bit over 4 second difference.

Spa q3 1:42.5, fastest lap 1:46.5 just about 4 seconds.

Hungary q3 around 1:16, fastest lap 1:20

I would take if that continues until Summer break, where Verstappen would be leading hamilton by 25 to 30 points. :) We would see another dog chase.

Yeah a Mercedes battle with Red Bull for the WDC would be against the drivers unlike the Mercedes battle with Ferrari which is against Vettel, Ferrari and the FiA.

Still hoping to see a three manufacturer podium in Melbourne thought, we'll know much more after FP2. If Mercedes is as strong as its being insinuated then we're more likely to have a repeat of 2015 and nobody wants that.
