The issue with refuelling is even less overtakes on track. It might however allow drivers to push a little harder. I think a solution could be tires with better working range combined with a certain amount of cliff:

Something like this!
No, issue with refuelling is, less on-track competition time for cars in the same performance bracket (say, Merc, Ferrari and RedBull in the current crop), because, cars operate on similar weight range only for a portion of the race (and even less time sharing track). In a way, it is a good thing, considering how aero sensitive these cars have become.

We could go back to the argument of getting the aero right, but, there is no simple way of getting aero right in the current cars other than taking it out of the equation. Unless, F1 is ready to take aero totally out of the equation, refuelling is better option than gimmicks like DRS and engineered degradation.

I felt refuelling was unfair in the past, because, without fuel flow restriction and unlimited PU, teams pretty much operated in an unsustainable manner. Now, should F1 introduce refuelling with fuel-flow restrictions and a reasonable PU mileage demand, it should work in a fair manner.

Agreed. Vettel has 2 goes with the softer tyre and is still 3 tenths away
maybe harder is better ala Ferrari in Spain (faster on harder tyre)

There are so many factors. Of course it's not just the engine which catapults Mercedes to P1 by such a big margin.
It simply must be said that Mercedes likes those tyres most. The performance advantage in comparison to other teams is bigger. I don't think it's a coincidence they look dominant for the second time on these compounds.

Horrendous performance from McLaren. Heads must roll.
Horrible display for sure. I figure it is only a matter of time.

Hamilton 4/10th’s quicker in S1, Bottas quicker in S2 and then when it’s clear they are safely through they back off and pit.
Somewhat worrying.

Also Ricciardo gets to start with the SS as well.

Nothing new. It's been like that for almost every Qualifying this season. Top teams go out on the softest tyres just before Q3 to do a last practice run. And then they abort the run.

Ferrari didn’t they ran the US.

Hamilton was 4/10th’s up on the slower tyre.

When they highlight the number 15th driver does it show his time and gap to 14 anywhere? because i can only see for 16-20, unless i'm not looking at the right place.
And same thing in Q2 with the cutoff being 10th. When that driver is put in the bigger box in the list his time/gap is not shown.
