I definitely dont recall Lewis doing 7 laps on his first run on the hypersofts! I hope its true for the sake of the race
You dont have to take my word
you can look at this stint tyre section on the f1 official app
You can see below that Lewis did 6 laps on softs and 7 laps on Hypers
Wereas Kimi and Vetttel did 5 laps on hyper......then VEttel pitted and came out after a while for 6 lap race run and pitted again

Then again he repeated this hypersofts run 5 laps and then he pitted and came out after few minutes and did he race run on the tyre for 7 laps

There is a confusing tyre statistics ... e.g. if you count the new tyres plus used ones there are 23 laps on Vettel`s case but F1 app shows us just 19 laps ... and the same for other drivers ... or maybe I didn`t figure out how the do it?

Regarding tyre race strategy here is Mario Isola`s thoughts about it: https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/sain ... 59/?nrt=54

"If they start the race with the hypersoft, the quicker strategy is two-stop, with two sets of hypersofts and one set of ultrasofts," said Pirelli motorsport manager Mario Isola.

I believe in that case they start on hypersoft, they put the ultrasoft in the second stint, and the hypersoft again at the end because the car is much lighter, and the drivers are able to control the degradation much better.

"If somebody outside the top 10 starts on the ultra, they can maybe try a one-stop strategy with ultra and soft. But on paper it's not the quickest one.

One stop, with the hypersoft and a very, very long stint on the soft, I don't think is a good strategy in terms of performance. There is the potential risk of blisters [on the soft] similar to what we saw in Monza and Spielberg."

Despite Pirelli's caution, it's clear that the majority of teams would prefer to stop just once, given the high value of maintaining track position at a street circuit where passing is difficult and the DRS effect not very powerful.

...

Bearing in mind a one-stop race there could be some top teams opting to start on US tyres, don`t they? Delta time loss between HS and US is 7 to 8 tenths so we should see that if they try them in Q1 ...

here is the lap counter
5 laps initially then he pitted and came out on the same tyre and did 1 lap and pit again = 6 laps of tyre 1 in two sessions

the new tyre 6 laps and he pitted and came out in the same typre and did two laps and pit again= 7 laps of tyre2 in two session

then same 7 laps old tyres he did 7 race runs in the end

Why it is showing 19 instead of 20 is because he pitted on lap 20

Ok, now do the same count with Bottas ...

pretty straight forward
that 9 laps given is 7 + 2 laps which he did on his one and only hypersoft tyres
Image

i think you are confusing with the last stint , where the stint laps are given not over the tyre but separately

What on earth were Mercedes doing there? they have the same amount of hypers then Red Bull and Ferrari going into qualifying yet they risk going out in Q1, that was too close.

They had one less set and now they're all equal. It paid off.

Yeah Williams 1.4s from P18. Shocking pace difference.

Great laps from RIC and LEC.

Vettel will have to go again but on the hyper once Kimi goes out and gets in to Q3 on that tyre.

Raikkonen on a steamer. Did anyone anticipate seeing a 1:36 in Q3?
