Due to his early error on his pole lap, Lewis was down something like 0.35s on his previous lap in sector one. He made the difference with record middle and last sector times.

He did his PB in S1 on his last lap.

Thats true. I think his final lap he was probably down going in to T2, but made up for it by the end of the sector.

Even if the race shows more, there's a point to be made that the teams made their set-up choices on very little FP3 data on a much colder track. Inevitably, some teams will get it wrong, some right, and some more right than others.
Ferrari took all the updates off they had brought from Singapore onwards. They brought several updates to Austin to solve the problems, but due to lack of practice time they didn’t want to risk anything, thus put the car together without updates in FP3. Meaning that in qualifying Ferrari had the car of prior Singapore. Versus a perfectly updated Mercedes.

Drag would be a way of explaining the straight line speed difference, but looking at the side by side comparison Mercedes must have had a wall at the rear to explain it just by drag.
I don’t know if you’re of the opinion that Ferrari lost power because of a second sensor, but I don’t think that under such circumstances they would still gain 2-3 tenths on one straight against a Mercedes in party mode like it was the case.

Guys is ther anywhere we have long run pace indications from practice? Obviously the sessions were all over the place the weekend with weather, but I'd like to see how Red Bull hold up on long run pace versus the Merc and Ferrari.

those are my own calculations from the FP3 runs, based on the average time over those amount of laps in the brackets:

Supersofts:
VER (6l)
RIC (7l) +0,196s
HAM (8l) +0,309s

Ultrasofts:
RAI (5l)
VET (6l) +0,224s
BOT (8l) +0,765s

So any predictions on who will have the advantage with the updated tire pressures?? We will learn shortly anyway but...
