That 3 to 5 seconds gap is also at odds with the reality of what teams did when they actually got free track to pull their tow stunts. Left free to choose, they chose gaps of about 1 second.
The journo clearly mixed two things here.
Rivals, not enemies.

The best tow on a straight is within 1 second of the car in front. The best place to be in corners is several seconds behind the car in front. Over a lap, the best place will vary depending on the nature of the circuit, varying between those two extremes. Hence the variations being discussed. Also, you don't want to catch the car in front when doing this. You want to close up i.e. gain lap time, over the lap, so you need to start in the right place relative to the car ahead.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

That is pretty much the definition for a tow! I was wondering, why teams with faster cars were NOT lining up behind a Williams for a tow! A Ferrari or a Mercedes could have easily started 3 seconds behind them at the start of a lap and be within 2 seconds by the time they exit Ascari and around/over a second at the time of exiting Parabolica. No damage in Sector 2 and a perfect tow approaching finish!

A Ferrari or Mercedes doesn't need a tow to get past Q1.

Great race! I have no problem whatsoever with the Le Clerc/Hamilton incident in Della Roggia. This is car racing. Let them race.

I LOVE the fact that nothing was done to penalize anyone.

Hamilton says he won't forget and might change things in the future. Good! That's how it's supposed to work...

Let the drivers sort it out on the track.

Maybe F1 isn't totally lost afterall.

It's not good racing.
doesn't take much skill to punt off an opponent.
It's real racing when you stay within the rules and maximise

This how drivers sort it out on the track; even though shumacher's squeeze after he ran out of steam messed it up.
But point is you can defend successfully without punting the other car.

Thx for posting- I always enjoy seeing Schumacher do what he can do best.
Didn’t that Mercedes have an F-duct built-in that front wing?

Having said that:

I will not mention his name- but someone has accused me lately of being ‘anti Hamilton’ (these are my own words) but this is absolutely not true.

I respect Hamilton a lot- and I admire his (almost always) ‘never give up’ state of mind- if Hamilton is 2nd, you automatically know there will be a ‘fight’.

But this doesn’t mean i am a fan of him perse- maybe if he goes to Ferrari one day..

No that double DRS was on the 2012 car. Loved that :D

I still dont get why there is ban on gear ratio changes race by race!
what is the logic behind it?
