If anything, I think today shows that the Red Bull isn't the dominant car some people were claiming it was at the beginning of the season.
It is dominant. Max and Perez both made mistakes that would have put both on Pole. Also both had very limited practice. I still expdct redbull to be much faster in the race.
For Sure!!

No, you're making my point for me!

If the car was as dominant as so many here claimed just a few weeks ago, they would have beaten Lewis regardless of the mistakes.

Helmet himself said Max's mistake cost him 0.2. so he would have been on pole by a little over a tenth without the mistake. That is hardly the sign of a dominant car.

Agree. I think it shows that there’s pressure and expectation on them to deliver for the first time, now they are in the fastest car. That pressure can lead to little mistakes....

I’m genuinely excited with how Norris has started the season. That boy could be a top driver.

Maybe not dominant, but definitely consistently strong.

I think today also showed that the car on this specific day seemed to be less of a decision maker than usual and that those who did better in quali were those who simply drove better in whatever car they had.

Lewis wasn't on pole because of any inherent ease of drive in the merc, but because he didn't make the mistakes others around him were making.

I guess that goes for Sergio too.

It will be interesting to see how well Max handles both the pressure of a true title challenge and a team mate threatening to actually make the Red Bull go as fast as he can.

I am not sure how the tires play into this. Last race RB was dominant on c2 (red) but that advantage was gone when turning to C3 (yellow) Seems that it is hard to setup the car for both. If that is the same for this race then it could well be that Ham and Ves are tuned towards the yellow tyre. They both seemed suspiciously comfortable on yellow in Q2.

Anyway it is going to be interesting at the front. An I guess that is what we all want, drivers included.

Yes, in the previous race it was the dominant car. Half a second is pretty bullet proof lead if you do not make mistakes.

After two qualifying sessions, Redbull is the faster. Dominant? maybe not but still comfortable lead. Both drivers made mistakes but they had still almost identical times to Hamilton.

Dominance is something else then being faster. At this moment, 5% or so into the season, with 3 measuring points, it's 2-1 for Mercedes/Hamilton.

The car seems fast but fragile.

Dominant was when one or both Merc drivers made similar 3 tenth mistakes and it was still 1-2...
We saw the Bulls stretching everything and finally overdriving. This spoils the easy picture.
Last year the Mercs, especially Ham, were mighty in free air in the race. I fear it all comes down to the start.

Did you notice Hamilton's time? 1-1-44-1-1 :o
Funny numbers for #44 on his 99th pole.

I'd love to see Perez take the win, but I think this a little premature: the tire strategy may well turn out to be a disadvantage.
