perhaps a stupid question but why haven't they decided to simply drive the opposite direction?
Turn 3 (or Turn 8 in the reverse layout) would be an absolute bloodbath due to the downhill hard braking zone and lack of run-off, akin to Baku's T15.
Turn 1 would be a bloodbath in reverse. There is about 2 metres of grass and then the armco. And a grandstand immediately behind the catch fencing. Turn 3 would be a walk in the park compared to that. At least there's a margin of tarmac before the barrier directly in front of an approaching car. Well, except for the exit where the barrier is only 2 metres away across some grass. And there's a marshal point right in the firing line, too. But other than that, a walk in the park.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Same reason why they don't turn the wings and diffuser backwards. Only designed to be work in one direction.
Reverse tracks are a common thing in video games. Of course it doesnt account for real life issues of track safety and track access. (run-off and retrieval, pit lane junction onto track etc.

They should have tested the silly qualifying thing at this race so it's not an identical weekend back to back.

The tracks are normally designed to run in just the 1 direction, so things like barriers, run off areas, grid slots, starting lights, digital flag boards, access roads, pit lane lights, marshall posts (where the barrier opens with an overlap), etc. will all be facing the wrong way.

Some tracks can run backwards, they are normally tracks that look like a supermarket car park with some lines drawn around it. These are much easier to reverse because they don't have to deal with moving physical barriers, just move some tyre walls around and turn all the lights around.

Grosjean last year comes to mind. If he had hit the safety car opening in reverse, it probably would have been an even worse accident.

Would have been a sensible decision because it would be a direct comparison at the same track.

Gotta keep in mind that the decision for sprint races was made before the track reshuffle gave the RBRing two races and with ticket sales etc probably already going on there was no way to switch it around.

That whole barrier angle and proximity to the track was a danger as it stands anyway. More or less impossible to change due to the ground level, road behind it. We have now “escaped” one drama there. But next race the same could happen. Just as Spa top of the hill where we have had the worst happen.

Yes all the entries for rescue vehicles are wrong around that track , and i thought after the 90's they use simulation to see what the changes of accidents are by simulating a car hitting the barrier at different angles but it seems they never did that at that track.

They will also be testing new tyre construction tomorrow. Would be interesting to see if it skews the competitiveness.

It’s going to be hard to get through FP programs that are shortened by half an hour and include a new tire test for tires that’ll be used in 2 weeks.

Those C5 tires will be no different than the C4's in the race, over one lap the C5's will be faster.

Teams that can afford to will want to avoid the C5 tire like the plague.

Inb4 Q2 drivers go out on the C5 for the last ditch chance to get into Q3.

If it's raining on Sunday, I think C5's will be usable in the race.

If someone is on a relatively new C5 and it starts to rain very lightly, then they'll be in a good place. Otherwise it's either go on to inters/wets or stay out on what you're on and hope the rain doesn't get heavy. I doubt anyone would come in a switch to C5 should it rain. Perhaps take the C5 if the dry line is in there and you need to change tyre with 5 laps to go. But otherwise it's not likely to be a race tyre at all.
