as.racing Britcar Production Cup - BMW Z3 Build

Post

Hello all,

Thought this seemed like the best place to share the project I'm currently working on. I'm about a year in now and finally have some decent progress worth sharing.

I'm building a car to compete in the 2013/14 UK Britcar Production Cup and try to keep the project updated fairly regularly here: http://www.asracingblog.com

I always feel that too much information is kept guarded in motorsport (rightly so to be fair), but I wanted to share as much information as I can with this build and give an insight into the various types of engineering that go into race car design for the benefit of fellow engineers and non-engineers wondering what it's all about. I won't have time to keep this thread updated as a build thread, so please check out the blog for the latest developments.

Oh yeah, just had the second weigh in: was 1,190kg now 868kg. Over 300kg lost and more to go- I haven't even started with the composites yet!

Cheers,

Andy

Some highlights of the build so far though.....

(I've got videos of it on the 4-post test rig, how do I link the youtube clips???)

Free CAD Downloads

Post

I'll be updating the website this week to include free CAD downloads for anyone who wants to do anything with them.

I've only got a very early model up at the moment, but will update the site with more soon.

Can be found here: http://www.asracingblog.com/cad-downloads.html

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks for sharing your project with us, good luck!

And what engine are you considering after the 1.9l? Although at your weight this little engine just might be enough to scare you for the time being.

thanks for sharing.

Really interesting project!

I saw you were testing also on a post rig. Do the rules allow to change something on suspension components/tuning?

Yeah, they do. I've got an MSc project student from my old Uni involved who will be designing a new fully adjustable system (geometry & damping) from now to the summer. Those post-rig videos were just an analysis of the baseline so we can compare it to the final setup later in the summer. Stay tuned...
