No Dave, that is by direct contact.
The experiment is using NO contact simply magnetic induction.

tells us that just about anything we'd like to do with an EV battery will seriously shorten its life
eg fill it, empty it, keep it full, or fill it fast

Magnetic roadways wont need batteries.
Small packs for off main road access maybe.

Last time I checked IC engines also wear out.
It all comes down to how cost effective and IC vehicles are going down electric going up.

those of us who live on planet Earth ......
will find that dynamic charging at motorway speeds is intolerably (in)efficient and impossibly uneconomic
https://chargedevs.com/features/olev-te ... in-motion/
and clearly no prospect of any - the UK Highways Agency programme is a political exercise founded on a Minister's public blunder
UKHA has a tender process for a research programme - it has no design capability regarding resonance inductive charging systems

and these, from an EV lovers source, seem significant regarding the rather modest battery prospects

How many shares have you got in coal?(that's what electricity is made of). Background: the International Energy Authority estimates that coal consumption will increase by 30% or more in the next 20 years.
