They're aiming for a top three finish this year! And at least top five. What an ambitious group, I like it. So hopefully the extra Sahara funds do the trick and give these guys a boost.

WOW that would be one incredible achievement! The new car must be something special if they think they can do that!
Unless this is just the sort of PR stuff we used to see from MGP

No sense in setting a target that can be easily achieved. They can easily move from 6th to 5th. However with their significant boost in budget this year they must feel 4th is realistic. Perhaps they're just setting a higher target to motivate team members to overachive.

How do you know they have a boost on the budget? Mallya is short of money, and I don't think Sahara will be spending too much.

Unless I'm seriously mistaken; which I don't think I am; by that they meant podiums rather than 3rd in the WCC

They already finished 3rd the the WCC once before...granted they were called Jordan at the time...
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

FI have a history of setting very high targets – last year their target was to be up with Mercedes, and tbh, at the end of the season, they were almost there. So this year, if they say their target is 3rd, then there's a reasonable chance that they might be challenging for it. I expect the outcome to be more like challenging for 4th, and Mercedes looking seriously harassed though.

Im giving Force India the target of finishing 6th again this season as well, if they can finish 6th for 2 years in a row they can grow in 2013, the reason for this is budget, and build time. They have purchaced land adjacent to their factory in Silverstone to build their first all purpose wind tunnel and a simulator, this building is also to house their design office as well.

The building is still to get planning permission passed, but id expect this to be a formality. Id recon that they will bring in McLaren for their simulator simmilar to what Lotus did last year to get the thing up and running (Albeit they will have to develop their own software) as for their tunnel, there are enough specialists out there, and the Design Office is a easy-ish one to get uup and running. Id also expect a gym as well for the drivers to do alot more in as well.

All the space that the design office and their small gym in their only building at present id expect to see taken over by more carbon fiber guys as it will probably mean that Force India could start to make their chassis in house and not by their present sub contractor EPM Technology, who also supply Marussia.

Id expect Force India to grow in 2013 once all this infrustructure is up and running they will make inroads in 2013. However its 2014 id expect there to be more improvement.

Force India have plenty of space, and if they keep coming 6th they can invest in infrustructure that will see them grow into a top 5 challanging team in no time.

Just a minor OCD thing, but you forgot to put the engine manufacturer in the title.

Also, interesting post ESP. Didn't know the team were doing all that! I do think it's just another case of pre-season nonsense by talking about podiums, but then again if they got Spa 2009

Top post and right in most aspects :-)

They do have other buildings. The present wind tunnel itself and adjcent to it they rent a small office block for some of their designers and laser machines.

That apart your sources are extremely good =D>

Words spoken with an authoritative tone is no guarantee of accuracy, in the 60% wind tunnel thread he appears unaware that FI even have a tunnel ;)

I was congratulating him based on what I know 'v' what he posted.Based on that, I personally consider this to be pretty darn close to the current thinking

Re: Force India VJM05

I knew that FI have their own tunnel, but they have desire to have their own one as i am led to belive that Force India use McLarens at present. Their 60% models are made in Silverstone and then shipped to Woking for testing. Their tunnel in Brackley is a 50% tunnel, i am led to belive.

I am led to belive that as much as €20m of the €50m from Sahara has been set aside for a new tunnel at Silverstone. A new tunnel would cut lead times significantly, and also mean that the tunnel guys could be brought in under the same roof as the CFD guys and design team. Thus meaning updates would come along faster?

Do they really use McLarens? I know they were using Aerolab until 2010.
